SharpeXB Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I always wondered exactly what this was for, here and RoF Ok duh. The name says it all. But if you've got Vsync on doesn't that do the same thing? I can't recall how I set it in RoF but turning it off makes the game run really smooth. I had it set at 60 since I'm running a 60hz monitor. Off seems better.
=VARP=Cygann Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Well if you got 144Hz monitor, but can't get FPS to lock at 144, then you're better off having steady 120 or 60, and you can't have that with Vsync in such case. Also, Vsync can cause mouse lag in BF4, while fps limiter do not. But these are not FPS games so mouse lag is not something you should worry about. If you got 60Hz monitor, keep using whatever gives you better result in smoothness and without tears, I guess it's Vsync in your case, and don't think about it too much, just ignore what you do not need...
Potenz Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 on the early days of RoF, there was some performance issues with some systems, a friend of mine found out that with a 3rd Party FPS limiter the game runs better, so later devs add the feature to the DN engine. What it does is limit the fps to a predetermined amount and don't let it fluctuate up and down, given a more stable game play with some low en systems
FuriousMeow Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 If vsync doesn't work, sometimes the drivers go south and even uninstall doesn't fix it. Or to keep a consistent fps so it doesn't go 35 to 120 and cause tearing because some choose not to use vsync for the best performance as vsync has been known to cut down fps in certain situations.
SharpeXB Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 I find both RoF and BoS work best with vsync on in game and FPS limiter off. In DCS I find the Nvidia adaptive Vsync works really well.
johncage Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 because anything over 60 fps is pointless as the eye cannot detect beyond 60 hrz. anyone saying otherwise is lying or experiencing placebo and speaking from ignorance. 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Without vsync I get masive tearing. Strangely I have a 59 hz display l, I have tried with and without fps limited and seems to make no difference I guess because of vsync. I normally get between 60 and 30 fps Fx 8350, gtx 770, 8gb 1333 hz

Thanks
Pringliano Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I don't know, but I always set VSync OFF on my sims, and FPS at 30. I'm running on a 60Hz LED Monitor, at a resolution of 1920 X 1080. It works :-)

I think I had always misunderstood what this does. If you're running the monitors native resolution it's not needed and gives a really good performance boost. I think it mit have been to blame for many game crashes, I'd crash every time with it checked it seems.

No screen tearing anymore without vsync
Bearcat Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I have mine set with FPS to 60 no v synch AA @ 4. No issues at all whether full screen or 1680x1050.
