Requiem Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) I didn't really know where I should put this post, but I frequent this forum the most so I figured free subject is probably appropriate. I've started flight training now and have created a blog which I will use to document my experiences. Even if you don't read anything else I would like for you to read my introductory post because how this has actually become possible is simply an amazing thing to me. I've been sitting on this for about 6 months now, and it's been so hard to not just burst out and tell people what I'll be doing, but it's the right time so check the link below if you want to have a read and follow along with my experiences in transitioning from simulators to real flying for a career. Cheers, Req http://requiemstraining.wordpress.com/ 10 Feb 15: First Solo Flight Edited February 12, 2015 by SYN_Requiem 7
SYN_Blackrat Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Mate, that is unbelievable, good for you, just sad to hear about the uni stuff not working out I know how hard you have been working for that, but maybe this is fate's way of guiding you to your true vocation
Dakpilot Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Congratulations and good luck!! as a pilot nearing the end of his career, all the best for your future, flying has given me experiences no other path would have given me, from WWII aircraft to Russian jets, enjoy the journey as well as the destination The whole planet can open up for your exploration Cheers Dakpilot
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Great news, you will pass with flying colors ;-)
CorsairHundo Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 That's great! Good luck, I'll be following your journey
Y-29.Silky Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 This is awesome Requiem! I always assumed you already had flight hours with how knowledgeable you are. In the long run once you build up for commercial, I highly recommend shooting for UPS/FedEx, or something equivalent, and avoid passenger airlines at all costs; but whatever keeps you in the air..
Yakdriver Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 and I will never be able to properly express my gratitude to them succeed in training. get your wings. Your friend is giving you a Push, If you want to express your gratitude, value the help he gives you, you will give your best, and better than your best to get to the Point where he is, one day, your Passenger. The day he is your passenger, he will know that the seed he planted has brought Fruit. Courage!
AwesomeSprawvy Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Excellent news and congratulations! With the amount of care and detail you put into your tutorials, I'm sure you will be fully dedicated to flight training. Good luck!
JimTM Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Wow! I'm very pleased to hear that you're following your first love in pursuing flight training. Your training videos are what got me into combat sims a few years back and I'm very grateful for the start you gave me. I know that you'll give a lot more people a great start in real world flying. Best wishes Requiem! Salut! Edited December 15, 2014 by JimTM
Requiem Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks very much for the kind words guys To say I am excited about this is a massive understatement
Felix58 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Hi Requiem, Your video tutorials display computing expertise and an interest in teaching. Don't underestimate your ability in this area. Good luck during your flight training,
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Congratulations Buddy .... you need to photo document this also ..... Chief
unreasonable Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Best wishes on your new career, and thanks for the outstanding video tutorials. Just don't try to shoot everyone down
Mastermariner Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 We might support your intention on the condition that it doesn't impair on your production of educational videos. Seriously, congrats and best of luck! Just don't let your previous training kick in. Master 1
=FI=Rambo Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Great read Requiem, looking forward read about your journey to chase your dreams and I wish you the best of luck!
Feathered_IV Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Congratulations Requiem, I'm so happy for you. Best of luck and be sure to make the most of this wonderful opportunity.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Good luck for your future flight career, it's well decided to pick this very rare opportunity up. I'm sure you wont regret it. As for single engine planes I can only recommend to go for an aerobatic license one day. It's real fun and exiting to fly real manouvres and feeling the physical forces behind it unlike behind our flatscreens at home (just mind your stomach) If you go for a comercial we can probably expect more Heinkel videos from you in future, can we? Best luck for future, fly safe and always check six Edited December 16, 2014 by Stab/JG26_5tuka
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Just remember to be honest of the cops ask you about the huge smile after your first solo; CFIs have it bad enough with students trying to kill us, we don't need the authorities thinking we're peddling something else other than flight time.
GP* Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Congrats! I look forward to following your journey .
oneeyeddog Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Best Wishes for you with your Flight Training, Requiem.
Requiem Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Cheers again everyone. I appreciate the support and was hoping no one would recoil in horror at the news I actually have a couple of photos from my intro flight back in August, but I was a noob at using the GoPro so I didn't charge the battery properly, therefore I didn't get to record it. I did take some notes about my intro flight though so I'll see about a blog entry for it tomorrow. I'm still working on a few videos, but the crappy news is that carpet cleaner contractors severed the cables of my G940, TrackIR (broke this in pieces to boot), and TrackClip Pro... essentially destroying them, so I'm limited in what footage I have recorded right now (which is about 4 or 5 vids worth atm). Thanks to those of you signed up to follow the blog by email too. Hope you enjoy it
SYN_Vorlander Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) The best wingman I ever had. Best of luck my great friend. Love your work BD Edited December 17, 2014 by SYN_Vorlander

Any chance you'll upload your GoPro footage...sort of like a vlog? I haven't flown GA in about 10 years so it would honestly be fun to watch .
Bando Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Good luck and congratulations. Fly safe out there. One cannot "restart" like we can in BOS. Have fun and make some pictures. I'll be watching this thread...
Requiem Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Just thought I'd update this thread and say my program starts tomorrow! Time to try and get some sleep... Yakdriver Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 keeping up with this...want!you sound like a Bush pilot! great fun!
JimTM Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) Requiem, Your engine out forced approach simulations reminded me of my C150 training way back in '75. The instructor pulled the power on me and I set up an approach on a very nice looking field far below. As we descended, I thought to myself, "That really is a nice looking field. But what are those structures on either side?" My instructor asked me if I noticed anything unusual about the field and I replied yes. He then said, "Well, you may want to avoid doing a forced approach on a rifle range." Ah, ya! He pulled that on many of the students. Careful! :-) Cheers! Edited January 24, 2015 by JimTM
