I think what happens in the start is that if your controls are assigned to an axis the game doesn't read them correctly sometimes when it finishes the automatic sequence. I usually crack the throttle a bit just as it finishes and that seems to help.

I do like how they animated the entire sequence and the technochat narraration. It's nice and informative.

I don't know what you fly, but if you fly anything Soviet you need to set the levers the way you want them to be after the startup, before you hit E. Otherwise your engine just dies after startup, because the mixture goes back to default zero position. Which makes the whole experience completely unrealistic and gamey. If we have it automatic, the least thing they could've done is finish the startup sequence with the levers in position ready to taxi, rather than moving everything back to "dark and cold" positions...

In that sense, it's not that much different than before, with regard to having the mixture set correctly before initiating the engine startup sequence. Still not perfect, yes, but for those used to setting their levers properly it's not really that big of a deal.

On that point - did all/most airplanes in WWII had spare light bulbs for gun sights (like Spitfires did)? It would be cool having to keep track of how long the gun sight was turned on, and then maybe changing the light bulb if it burned out...

Would it really be cool? mmh

I can already hear the complaints now...

My gunsight isn't being displayed, WTF, bug!

German lightbulbs are under modeled! Here, take a look at this chart from Siemens.

I want to see an animation of my pilot changing out the lightbulb! Anything else is arcade!
