Rise of Flight to be part of Documentary on BBC France

Bonjour mes amis,

 

I recently assisted some producers for BBC France who have made a documentary about the French flying ace Charles Nungesser in WWI. Looks like the doc will air soon. Here are the details they gave me. If you are in France and want to catch it please do so. I have not seen it yet.

 

Nungesser, le corsaire de l'aviation" produced by BBC WF, will be aired 16 december 2014 on RMC Découverte

 

I think the ROF footage I provided is just going to be used to show what the combat looked like. We should be listed in the credits.

Let me know how it is or if you can record it. They only gave them a couple minutes of footage of Nungesser's SPAD taking off, landing and shooting down a couple planes. I didn't have a lot of time to do more fancy flying for them. I feel bad now, maybe I should have found the time to get them more footage.

Rather good documentary, I have seen worse.

Some footages from Rise of Flight, but sadly, out of context, showing a SPAD XIII when it was about Nungesser in his Nieuport XI.

J'ai failli signaler, mais je voulais pas faire mon chieur, qu'il y avait peut-être un problème de "copyright" à mettre le documentaire en ligne...

 

Le documentaire est assez bon. Pas pour la partie faite par les producteurs, c'est à dire leurs commentaires, le choix des images et leur montage. C'est souvent, voir toujours, très mauvais dans les documentaires modernes. Cette partie est assez mauvaise, comme d'hab, dans le documentaire en question, mais j'ai vu bien pire.

 

Et donc, les images de RoF sont utilisées à mauvais escient, même si elles permettent pour quelqu'un qui n'y connaitrait rien du tout de ce faire une idée du sujet. On aurait pu faire beaucoup, beaucoup mieux avec cet outil.

 

Par contre, les interviews sont bonnes : les gens qui parlent connaissent le sujet et sont bien choisis. On apprend des trucs, ce qui est rare dans les documentaires grand public sur un sujet que l'on connait.

 

Je pense qu'au final, la personnalité, le caractère, de Nungesser, que je connaissais mal, est assez et objectivement bien cerné. Casse-cou, aventurier, ça on savait, mais aussi, quelque part, rigoureux et logique, et un peu fleure bleue...

 

Que sa tentative de traverser de l'Atlantique soit peut-être pour essayer de faire revenir sa jeune femme new-yorkaise qu'il aimait beaucoup (ce n'est pas dit dans le documentaire, mais subtilement sous-entendu -rare dans ce type de document-), c'est un truc dont je n’avais pas idée.

 

On apprend d'autres choses. Qu'il a toujours refusé de faire décoller l'"Oiseau Blanc" à pleine charge, pour ne pas prendre le risque de le casser, faisant le pari qu'il décollerait le moment venu. Que Coli a été choisi avec beaucoup de soin et de respect, etc.

 

Pourtant, les grands raids des années 20/30, j'en connais en rayon sur le sujet, j'adore ça (mon avatar est un Dewoitine "Trait d'Union", dessin de Marcel Doret... peut-être un problème de copyright aussi...).

 

Avec le recul, ce documentaire est très bien, avec les défauts du genre, lorsque les producteurs veulent faire trop "grand public, ce qui est malheureusement toujours le cas. Mais les connaisseurs y trouvent leur compte aussi, et ça c'est rare.
