RydnDirty Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Has anybody else tried timing a climb to 6k in both the bf109? I just tested them both 100% fuel from the runway and hit start on the watch as I throttled up to 1.3 ata. Held the climb as best I could at about 270km/h. The F4 got to 6km altitude in just under 5 mins... 4:55 the first time and 4:57 the second run. This is a lot better climb rate than 6min to 6k alt given on Kurfurst site for F4. The G2 I got just over 5min in both runs. 5:16 the first and 5:19 the second run. Which roughly matches the times on kurfurst site. Seems strange .Have I missed something? Maybe the F4 engine is getting better power from the cold air and climbing faster. Where as the G2 is using the derated engine so the extra power from the cold air only brings the engine power up to rated power? I guess that makes sense. When I did the F4 and got under 5 mins, when expecting 6min, I was surprised. Certainly makes more sense to use the G2 as the base german fighter and F4 as the upgrade when an airfield is supplied. As syndicate has been doing.
Y-29.Silky Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) My paranoia of blowing my engine during a dogfight forces me to climb at 1.2 ata, which is the continual speed. Haven't timed it but am at 4000m before I even realize it. Speed around 200kph, ish. Neck of the woods. Edited December 9, 2014 by Silky

I think you can push the F4 to 1.3 for a long while, but I haven't flown LW in a few months so they might have changed it.
RydnDirty Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 The more I Think about it this is a HUGE bug. I better make another thread with a clearer title that it is a problem.
Freycinet Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Huge bug, really? I think it sounds pretty acceptable, especially given that your test methodology probably differed from that employed in the actual tests.
RydnDirty Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 F4 is more than one whole minute faster than real life tests ! This is not experimental error! The G2 is bang on the real life tests. Tt's not hard to take off and climb at 1.3 ata 270 km/h. How could I being doing it so differently that my results are 1min different from the real life results? Test it yourself, any way you want you'll find the F4 out climbs the G2. Why?
Y-29.Silky Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Can you show the these documents you're referring too about the real climb speed? Also, were you aware of wind direction/speed when you tested? Edited December 10, 2014 by Silky
II./JG77_Manu* Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Can you show the these documents you're referring too about the real climb speed? Also, were you aware of wind direction/speed when you tested? There are Topics full of them...somewhere in the "Data" folder. I also have a book about most WW2 performances..Willy is right
