Simicro Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Hi all, I read about the specific fuel management on the IL-2: 1) Several fuel tanks 2) A tank selector (managed automatically by the game with no possibility to override manually) How do I know the remaining fuel? I can read the fuel gauge but there is no indication of the tank selected?
=38=Tatarenko Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 The tank selector flicks periodically and the fuel remaining is shown on the gauge. It carries a stack of fuel so you're unlikely to run out.
Simicro Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Thank you Taratenko. I noticed indeed the tank selector flicking. But to have a idea of the total fuel remaining one would need to be able to choose each tank (with an indication of the tank selected) and read the gauge. Actually I am curious because I've never run out of fuel on a regular mission.

The pilot switches between tanks every 30 secs or so. and switched to the other tank.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) I never knew about this feature, I think it's a real shame this can't be selected manually, I'm no programmer but I guess if the animations are all there it can be that hard to implement. That said why could we not have buttons for everything that is animated such as the start up. I know we don't and will not have clickable cockpit but if could assign these already animated events to buttons and have code that says press them in the right order for a start, it would seriouly add to the SIM aspect of BOS Edited December 7, 2014 by AeroAce 2
Habu Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 A manual selection would be better, because we can have a false reading. If you have a look at your tank fuel and see that you don't have any more fuel, you're going to return base instead of waiting any second which could make the difference between landing in the snow or on your base.

I'm not sure that BOS simulates a multi-tanks system when we're talking about the fuel systems. I think it currently works like Il2 1946. Only one tanks is simulated. So if you got a fuel leakage on the right wing of a yak for example. The left wing indicator will go down also untli the leakage stops or the fuel tank is dry. IRL left tank should "keep" his fuel.
Habu Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 yep. If your right tank is empty, and you look the indicator when your selector is on the right tank, you'll see that you don't have any more fuel. You don't wait the few second that the automatic selector switch to other tank.
