Skin viewer question

So the skin viewer will be arriving soon, does that mean there are skins to work with all ready out for us to modify?

Templates will be provided, those are files that you can modify to put paint on your plane.
All you do is paint the plane like with an airbrush, and the techno bits and pieces, and the smoke effects are already in there. no need to paint every rivet, every screw.

Why the word "Viewer"? Why not "Skin Template"?

As I understand at this time, the devs will provide:

1) A template

2) A skin viewer which will allow to view a skin on a 3D model and pan around it without having to launch BOS

The skin viewer is a little app that uses models from the game and the lighting engine of the game, so you can see exactly how your skin will look in game without starting it.

To easily make skin they'll also release photoshop layered template with all elements separated so you can make skins easy.

Time to Dust off Photoshop... and install Nvidia plug ins... Then do a little research on Brushes for Photoshop etc.

Probably so you can save the skin files down as .dds files - that's the way it works for RoF anyway.

Hopefully it's going to work with Gimp as well unlike RoF. I fear it's going to se the same strange conversation methods though so I hope for the best

 

I've never used GIMP (since I have PhotoShop) but there are a lot of people who have used GIMP to create skins for RoF and seem to do just fine with it.

There's an old version if Photoshop cs2 available for free these days from Adobe. It's no longer supported with updates but it works great.
