Cybermat47 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=207460 Looks like it has potential. It has two of the Silent Hunter developers on it, and I don't think that there's ever been a flight sim that lets you patrol the Atlantic. And the surface fleet gameplay sounds really interesting. And of course, U-boats...
Feathered_IV Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Sounds really good. Will definitely keep an eye out for that.
Stray Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Speaking of uboats, silent hunter online is in open beta. Very buggy and confusing for SH veterans., but it's there. This title may be a little too much though. And judging by not many responses from Kaleuns on subsim, they are sceptical, too. I waited for the supermod... Still playing SH3 with GWX mod...
Cybermat47 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) Mr. Witteman just released some images of the ships. Pretty early stuff though. Edited September 17, 2013 by II./ZG76_Cybermat47
Mogster Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Interesting. They seem to be trying to tap into the same market as "Ship Simulator" Good luck to them. I'm not at all sure about the flight sim aspect. I can't imagine that it'll be BOS or DCS level of detail. Maybe they should stick to boats. Edited September 19, 2013 by Mogster
TheBlackPenguin Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I wonder what game engine they will be using?
Cybermat47 Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 I wonder what game engine they will be using? I think Unity, but I'm not sure. I'll check.
Cybermat47 Posted September 22, 2013 Author Posted September 22, 2013 OK, they're using Unity for the prototype, but it mightn't be good enough for the final product. Also: THERE'S A DYNAMIC CAMPAIGN! I'm not at all sure about the flight sim aspect. I can't imagine that it'll be BOS or DCS level of detail. Maybe they should stick to boats. Don't worry. Knowing the usual blokes at Subsim, they'll do it to the best of their abilities, then release several patches to further improve it. They're that good
Cybermat47 Posted September 22, 2013 Author Posted September 22, 2013 I'm looking forward to the multiplayer. It'll be interesting to see cooperation between the escorts and planes when they're hunting down a U-boat... even if I'm the one in the U-boat.
Corsair Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 -Enroll in the Kriegsmarine as a battleship or u-boat commander and engage enemy fleet or merchant shipping and convoys. Hurray ! Prince of Wales, here I come! Good luck to them!
Cybermat47 Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 Hurray ! Prince of Wales, here I come! The current one or the ship? I'm about to call MI5...
MarHen1 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Mr. Witteman just released some images of the ships. Pretty early stuff though. Yeah Hans Witteman, the world's greatest game desingner with the habit to announce super games, showing great preview graphics but never finish his projects or deliver something playable.
JG26hans-wittman Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Yeah Hans Witteman, the world's greatest game desingner with the habit to announce super games, showing great preview graphics but never finish his projects or deliver something playable. Well that nice to see we have already a fervent supporter here!
JG26hans-wittman Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone, Just to rectify what MarHen(probably machiavelli the subsim troll)said about me, first i never annouce any games title in the past, second what i was working on was a mega mod for Silent hunter 3 and since i was almost alone doing all the work and 6 month prior to release of this mod life made me cross the path of 3 formers developer from the Silent hunter series and we shared the same vision, so such an opportunity doesnt happen twice in a lifetime and i decide to form the team for ATWAR. All the work done for the mod was re usable for the ATWAR project + Gabriel had a lot of models already done on his side. I can understand that some people might get frustrated because we decide to go for ATWAR instead of finishing the mod, but franckly we had so little support for the mod that a complete new title was more tempting to go for, specially with such a good team reunited. I know we cannot please everyone on this earth and that there will always be people who hate you for no reason but i don't like getting stab in the back by forum trolls. So thank for all of you supporting ATWAR and i truly think you guy's will really like what you will see soon on the ATWAR website&forum since i finally have a great team to work with. Regards the Atlantic Warfare team Edited October 2, 2013 by JG26hans-wittman
FlyingNutcase Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 A nicely worded comeback. :-) I don't see how Atlantic War ends up as "A.T.W.A.R." though as there's no acronym. Good luck with it though; the more quality sims the better for the genre.
Uufflakke Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I don't see how Atlantic War ends up as "A.T.W.A.R." though as there's no acronym. ATlantic WAR --> A.T.W.A.R. Good luck with the project!
JG26hans-wittman Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 (edited) Hi Guy's, Thank a lot and you have no idea about how much we need your support since we have a lot of people for strange reason trying to spread negativity about our project, some even go to the lenght of creating fake account just to bash us on various Sim forums! Deploying such a project demand a lot of discipline and perseverance and to maintain the team morale we rely on you guy's since you are fueling us to push ourselves forward to give you something you will be proud to own. We are under a barrage of sarcasms and many are skeptic and i can understand this since so many project end up as vaporware but they don't know us and specially they have no idea about our deployement strategy for ATWAR. Take the example of another ambitious project like Star Citizen, they knew it was impossible to launch the whole game as one release in such a short shedule so they are deploying the game in modules and will continue to develop the project as long as their community will fuel them. We are planning for something innovative for the deployement of ATWAR to give us the possibility to constantly expand the game content in a democratic way so you guy's will vote for what you will like to see in first on our forum. Again thank for all of you who have faith in our project and we will give the best we have to revive our beloved genre so we can all enjoy the latest technology within our favorite type of game. Dutch Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I saw this a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say that my interest was 'piqued'. The Battle of the Atlantic was perhaps the most crucial aspect of the war in the west, and it'll be very interesting to see how they will be able to make this both interesting and realistic. Not to mention entertaining. I wish them every success, and if it looks like turning out to be a good thing, I'll contribute.
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Good luck to them, not my cup of tea but im sure there will be interest.
FlyingNutcase Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 ATlantic WAR --> A.T.W.A.R. Good luck with the project! Then what does the T, A and R stand for? Like N.A.T.O. = North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. So I'll suggest again that there's no acronym here.
JG26hans-wittman Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Hi guy's, The ATWAR is mainly the abreviation that probably most players will come up with just like BOB or COD etc. regards the Atlantic Warfare team
MarHen1 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 So what's up with this vapor-ware project by Hans Wittemann?- Announced a kickstarter campaign - not initiated until now.- Announced a website & forum for late fall last year - not delivered until now.- Announced actual in game footage for late fall last year - not delivered until now.- Announced a magazine for February - not delivered until now.2016 we will read that ATWAR is on hold like his former project HAHD, but we had two years a big show of hubris and self-congratulation. 1
johncage Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Well, I appreciated that. Seems there's some dubious history to this project. Always good to know. There's a lot of "figher ops" out there now. We can't be too careful.
Cybermat47 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Well, I appreciated that. Seems there's some dubious history to this project. Always good to know. There's a lot of "figher ops" out there now. We can't be too careful. Yeah, how dare the team take time off for their families, and lives, and friends.
johncage Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Keeping an open mind means considering both praise and criticism. I appreciate more than one view on this project. If anything, having distractions like family, friends, jobs, etc makes it even harder to complete a project. i'm going to exercise caution because a bad track record is a bad track record. No matter how much I like the idea of a project, reality and facts must take precedence over wishful and hopeful thinking. But I am definitely keeping an eye out for this, They need to show something more substantive.
Feathered_IV Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Good luck to the team. I recently rediscovered Akelas's PT Boats, Knights of the Sea and have been spending a lot of time with it. The potential there as a modding platform is incredible. Such a shame it never got the player base it deserves. Will look forward to this one though and I wish the team all the best.
FlatSpinMan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 MarHen1 - go easy. Flying Nutcase - soooo not the point. 1
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Keeping an open mind means considering both praise and criticism. I appreciate more than one view on this project. Kinda hard to do that, since as MarHen1 pointed out, there's very little to evaluate yet. So far, as you say, this looks like something to look out for.
Cybermat47 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Hate to say it, but I don't think anybody should be holding their breath for this ... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=211876
johncage Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) No wonder serious developers don't want to do Sim anymore since they can have a much easier life developing a dumb down RPG for the mass and their fans support them a ton he put himself in a "me vs. trolls" mentality. a bad place to be when creating something, since it causes undue paranoia, emotional stress, etc. he seems to be another one of those people who wanted accolades and appreciation rather than develop something he wanted to develop regardless of people's views. and i've never read or heard about serious sim developers turning to mainstream rpg. what is he talking about? Edited March 11, 2014 by johncage 1
Mikey Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Its too much of a risk or something idk, most sub sims and flight sims I've played have made boatloads of money, so make a game like il2,sh3 and surface ships combined and that sim would sell like crazy if any team out there had the balls to make it the so called small "hardcore niche" crowd only like that because there hasnt been any good sims for years. there is plenty of customers if the game is made good. if not well no one like flying glitchy bugged planes or commanding uboats that wont surface
