Does the green Vote Up button on do anything beyond show the count for that post?

Hi folks,

 

The green arrow on the right side of posts lets us "vote up" up a post. Does that just show the count for a particular post or does it contribute to a member's cred in some way?

It would seem that we all have an ongoing Reputation value and that up votes add to that.

It adds to your reputation. It is shown at the top right of your profile. You also have a reputation register in your profile, where you can see what you got the reputation for and who you got it from. If you want to have a high reputation, all you need is two or three buddies who vote up every post you make, which makes the whole thing pretty useless.
