Nothing´s good about beeing a conformist or opportunist. But pissing everyone off for the sake of don´t wanna be such a person in no case...well....that is irritating as Featherd stated.

I got the AI  to work, u just need to wait in the pit for a min, taxi to runway, make sure u pull up in the mid about a 10th of the way down, wait until they stop moving, as soon as they stop moving they will follow.

ITS A REALLY GOOD MISSION THANKS

THE WAIT UNTIL THEY STOP is the most important thing!!!

I can do without Yak's antics - other than that - good thread.

I knew this stuff was coming. As for the creator - thank you!!

Why is pointing out a few flaws in the mission irritating? if it don't work it should be reported.

SD: irritation is in the eye of the beholder. And we can all behold.

If he's pointing out flaws in the mission, surely a PM to the mission designer would be appropriate. On the other hand, if he can't make the mission work when many others, including myself can - and have left tips on how to, then perhaps the flaw lies elsewhere.

Anyway, I can't find polite words for the annoyance I personally feel (it's getting late here), so it's time (for the first time!) for me to try out that "Ignore" feature. Here's hoping it works.

Edit! Hey! It works! Super cool!

Can't leave it alone!

In any case, mission designers typically spend a great deal of time and attention getting their missions "just so", balancing all sorts of considerations. Veteran66 - according to the readme - had a group of testers and assistants. So poinrlessly "spamming" a thread like this is pretty insulting to the people who put what seems like a great deal of time and effort into this mini-campaign. Astonishing lack of grace, really.

Pointing ot flaws is absolutely right. This needs to be done.

But we all shall keep our comments nice and civil, Shall we not? :)

There's politely pointing out a flaw, and there's being obnoxious about it.

Wow, this is an awesome set of missions! I love the attention to the detail. I really like the radio calls too, somehow they sound much more natural than the default ones. Great immersion, with all the ground battle going on.

Yeah - kudos for getting the first (to my knowledge) user-made campaign out the door.

To Yakdriver -

You may not be aware of this but in the software industry a lot of instruction is being relayed in the form of readme files. This is the case with this set of missions as well. The readme file is in the folder "VeteranenMissions", read it, it should help you get up to speed more easily.

Specifically, at the end of a mission the autopilot command is required. Therefore, it has to be enabled, so you will need to go into Realism: custom, and activate Autopilot.

Besides the information given in the readme file:

When taxiing onto the runway, make sure you leave enough space for your wingment to line up as well. They all need to be able to line up properly; once they are lined up, they will report being ready, one by one; once they are all ready, you (the flight leader) will request your takeoff clearance, and it will be granted. If you follow this easy sequence you and your flight will all be able to successfully take off and fly to your station.

Hey - the builder actually put some thought into this and tested his missions - whadya know?

Posted (edited)

Please, somone tell me these missions do not take cognisance of the pilot level. I am at level 10 and 9 out of 10 missions I take off in a flying coffin knowing I only have around a 10% chance of completing the mission alive. A real enjoyment killer that made me reinstall CoD after a 3 year absence from it.

That's a product of the stock campaign only.

This sounds great! At work now but will race to try it when I get back.

Thanks very much in advance, V66.

These missions live in the "Missions" folder, not in "Campaigns". They are a set of missions that, logically, walk you through a part of a campaign. They are unrelated to what you achieve in the default campaigns. However, you can use any unlocks that you might have.

ah, let's not get into my life.

the mission set? here?

takeoff.jpg

when they announced they were ready for takeoff and somehow didnt?

It is likely i simply lack the knowledge on how to make them take off i guess. aint mentioned in the nonexistant readme.

i stopped trying after this, 2 hours 30 on one mission is enough.

these Missions seem to be kind of Mini-movies... in specific situations you need to take specific actions, or Things won't pan out the way they are meant to be.

Really sad tho... dozens of hours must have been shoved into this and i don't have the right ROF knowledge and background to get that stuff to run.

I was all happy in the beginning, and quickly ground to a halt. Guess i was spoiled by 1946 in the past. That was super simple stuff.

Think about it, 1946 how many years after the original IL2 was that released?

You are comparing things from a sim that had fully matured to a first up effort from a brand new sim, some of your comments are quite rude after all the maker of this campaign has put a lot more work into it, than you have into your posts.

Your not being a non conformist you are simply conforming to the behaviour of others as rude as yourself.

Thank you so much for this awesome campaign !

Unlike yakdriver I read the readme and did not make an utter and complete fool of myself.

I try one mission and received a radio call saying "light bombers Angels 50", is 50.000 feets~15.000 meters?

I only see Sturmoviks very low, maybe at 200/300 meters.

Something is amiss: I have downloaded & installed this campaign...BUT I seem to be stuck in Offline mode and the campaign does not show up.Now I can't seem to get back into online mode again either. The worst of both worldsDid I download a corrupt version of this? can someone suggest some solution?

Thanks!

Note it is not a Campaign (like Zak post it) it is a missions sequence

The Missions you find in the BoS offline mode MISSIONS folder.

2 minutes after I wrote this post I figured it out & got the first mission up & working..I should have been more patient. From the brief look I just got of the first mission ,it seems to start to fulfill the potential of the sim! Many thanks for the work!  ;)

yes it mean 500m

yes it mean 500m

In the RAF jargon we use Angels as a measure of altitude in thousand feet. Angels 50 would therefore mean 50 000 ft, which is... Err... A bit too high for WW2 bombers ;) How does the Luftwaffe refer to altitude in codenames? I am not familiar with german fighter pilot jargon...

Haven't had the time to test yet, but fired up the first mission for a quick look and it was great. Looking forward to play it!

Thx for your hard work guys.

Just flew the first mission.  Managed to bag a couple of Il-2's as well.  The new voice samples are very nicely done too and do a lot for the sense of immersion.

One area that could do with some work is the mission briefings.  Not much character there and the pesentation feels very rushed.  The +++++ point form looks more appropriate to the briefings in a dogfight server that nobody ever reads.

Instead of this:

Could the same information be presented more like this?:

I have played all eight missions and really enjoyed them. The only thing that's missing is a screen with the mission results. I have no idea how many planes I shot down while flying the missions. I hope the devs will add such a statistic function to the single player mission mode in the future.

Yes the Briefing Problem some guys will have storys and some short infos.

My way was the +++Text+++ is the org Text from Wehrmacht reports, this give the Infos what going on on the Front.

Feel free for own Briefings :)

oh i see a problem in the english Chir Front Briefing it have no "Chir_Front_1_parking" name

here the new fix:

I'm not normally into single missions (though perhaps I should be) but I look forward to trying this. And I want to commend you for doing this and thank you for your efforts and patience with answering our queries and changing/fixing things.

Flew 2 missions and enjoying very much so far, great atmosphere !

Thanks a lot for your work Veteran66

Thanks, Veteran66 !

Today I "flew" the second mission (I think it took me well over an hour) and actually managed to "smoke" at least one fighter and three Pe's  AND return to base and land (with a red fuel warning light glowing), a truly rare occurrence for a fairly shoddy, aging "sim-pilot" such as myself!  It was, without question, the most immersive, realistic and satisfying session I've ever enjoyed on a flight-simulator.  If this is BoS's potential, its heading for the stars!

By the way, don't be too hard on "Yakdriver", he is none other than "Hawker Typhoon" under a new guise, definitely NOT one of the "bad guys" ,but cursed/blessed (?) with a wicked sense of humour!  Maybe his new avatar looks too fierce...

I'm having a bit of a problem figuring out what's happening in nav map.Hitting M for Map the first time brings up the now familiar close up map of where my plane is now ( on the airfield ayt the beginning with a cropped vectoe going Northeast.)No problem.Hitting M again gives me a very large scale map with no names what so ever and apparently shows an encircled area ( Germans in Stalingrad perhaps?) and what appears to be the front line in the Southwest , but I am really not sure.Briefly, in between these two maps I catch a momentary glimpse of at least one ( maybe two?) other medium scale maps that could be more useful to a non-all-real  navigator like me, but they are gone so quickly that I really cannot see them in any detail. If I put the plane on auto pilot (as in other missions in this game and elsewhere) to get me where the mission is supposed to go ,my plane simply flys in circles. Have I downloaded a corrupted version? Can I access a more helpful map while in flight? I'm sure there is a simple solution I have simply overlooked.Help anyone?

Just played the first mission and really enjoyed it - thanks for putting this together!

Blitzen, try pressing the letter "O" to bring up the briefing, which brings up a helpful (to me at least) size map. I don't think he made any waypoints with the missions, so you basically have to navigate on your own. Autopilot only circles around (I guess) if there are no waypoints to fly to.

I just headed toward the area on the map which indicated 'the front' (red arrows showing army movement, hashed red/blue type lines for the front, etc) and patrolled around there until something happened. The briefing (or maybe the voiceover?) says something to the effect of 'patrol the southwest area' so I patrolled more around that part (the bottom) of the front.

BLOODY HELL!   This is good stuff and beyond awesome. Only done 2 missions, i cant waste all the good gaming time to quick

Hitting M for Map

If you pretend Navigate VRF and dont follow "GPS", forget the "M" keys, use only "O". (I remap M for O and hide this GPS micro-mini-map in Settings).

You will see this - is need zoom slight, using mouse scroll wheel.

Just fly for EAST and patrol over the Chir river, you will see battle marks on ground.

Unfortunately due to the many, many ground objects and units the game runs quite slowly, with this weird 1/2 speed effect we had a few patches ago.

I experienced the same issue. Mission speed appeared fine until the additional AI planes showed up. Running at 1/2 speed gives you plenty of time to adjust aim.

The 1/2 speed is a show stopper for me though.

Love the mission design.
