Stalingrad summer and Kuban are the next likely. Hopefully with an expanded ground object and aircraft and set as well.

I would love an almost completely forgotten era: The Inter- and Spanish Civil War. So many developments were made in that time and yet it has been neglected completeley by modern flight sims.

A few examples:

And many, many more.

For me it's the Golden Age and unjustifyably forgotten.

Here's a link to quite a good list. http://www.zi.ku.dk/personal/drnash/model/Spain/did.html

Spain could be interesting indeed and add some more RoF feeling with all those neat biplanes....

A Legion Condor sim could have potential, though I doubt iit's what many people want to see. Personally I would appreciate it just for the Do-17, He 112 and biplanes, though I'd also love a pacific or western front scenario in BoS quality.

Hope they don't work too long on additional eastern front scenarios in future, even though I might play them all nonetheless.

There were several interesting theaters before the second World War officially started. The axis and allies fought long before 1939, the invasion of Poland.

There were the Proxy Wars in Spain and the second Sino-Japanese war in which the airforces of both sides trialed their strengthes.

It was a Quantum Leap forward in the development of fighters, Monoplanes superseded Biplanes, Tactical Bombers Dove on their targets at incredible speeds and precision, strategic bombers destroyed supplies miles behind the frontlines. It was in my eyes more interesting in terms of technology than the WWII, and only because WWII came along it has been largely forgotten.

I think awaking interest in this period shouldn't be hard, finding a catchy name shouldn't be hard to find, something with Stukas and Guernica, Blood, Fire and Baptism, Legion Condor even. Everybody has heard of Legion Condor and the Bombing of Guernica.

Germany, or the area around Berlin would be cool.

The ammount of work and research would be MASSIVE though.

I always wonder why there are no western developers to fulfill these dreams of yours (Med,Malta,Sicily,Pacific etc...).Most advanced economies like USA ,Germany,UK are not able to produce a single PC game studio to deal with WW2 combat flightsims (or tank sim).No governement support to such activities that promotes history, knowledge and national pride.

And we have here russian guys willing to do this unthankfull job, trying to present to all of us part of their history (documentary game to educate those ignorant masses out there) + Ilya Muromec sponsored by Russian society for history, and people still cry out loud for something else, even we do not have one single operation (Uranus) ready for eastern front.

With you all the way Brano.  It is a puzzle to me, as to fly and fight an aircraft, particularly against human opposition on MP, is surely something that would interest a lot of people if they only knew it was possible.  I know I just could not believe it when I first found out that this sort of thing was available.  In fact, I was rather anti computers until I found out about flight sims, LOL.  Beats me why there is not more advertising for flight sims on TV and particularly at air shows around the world.  For example, I have been to two air shows this year and not one stand could be found advertising BoS or DCS with PC rigs ready for people to have a go on.  There was some advertising for War-Thunder though.

It's probably a matter of a bunch of guys going out there and setting it up themselves...

I bet 1C/777 chaps would be interested if a couple of guys came up to them and asked for materials and support for opening up a BoS/RoF stand at say Duxford something, I bet they'd be thrilled. Pretty much it'd involve bringing out a couple of desktop computers, joysticks and pedals and I bet the BoS people could give us a couple of banners or something and away we'd go. I'd do it myself if I didn't live in Australia... :(

I personally hope that the next scenario will be Eastern front that gives VVS the La5fn and the Mig3 (and perhaps a later Yak) and perhaps a 109G6, a tank buster Ju87G first before we change the theater of war.

I'm undecided between Africa theatre and the Pacific theatre. Its a choice between awesome terrain and aircraft carrier ops.

As a Finn I'd love to see Winter War and especially Continuation War.. I'd love to fly a well modelled BW-239 against I-15s and I-16s. While I'm pretty sure this request is close to every Finn's heart, I don't think that we're such a majority in this community that pleasing us is a high priority ;)

It has been left out of most of the Combat Sims, just like the many smaller conflicts, like the Spanish Civil War, Kalkin Gol, Sino-Japanese War and many more. I would love more of the Proxy Wars, we all already have good Mods and Sims for the other, larger Theaters.

PTO, with functional and animated carrier decks, LSO's, elevators, hanger decks, animations of arresting wires on landings, and catapults on takeoff's.

Animations of crew members, guide-men, and such, carrier decks are busy place, animations of it.

My personal preference's ;)

are the dessert camos for the germans probably a easter egg predicitng africa as next theatre of war?

The Med/Western Europe theatres could probably be joined together.

I haven't seen a good Western European theatre sim since 1998. One things for sure, I'm becoming burnt out of the Eastern Front. I got a little break from IL-2: Pacific Fighters 10 years ago, but ever since then it's been all about the Eastern Front, in 1946 there was no Western European Campaign. CSF:3 was almost 15 years ago, and 4 planes in DCS is way too expensive.

- A fully functioning B-17 has yet to be completed.
- P-51, 47, 38, 61's, Spitfires, Typhoons, 109's 190's, Ta's, 262's, 110's, 88's, B-17's, 24's, 26's, Stukas, Blenheims, Mosquitos, Wellingtons, the list goes on of potential planes that have the flexability for a lot of different types of missions.

Just say no to JETS! (Although, I would like to see a Korean war scenario where both sides are competitive.) Late war scenarios with 262's in Il2 '46, were so lopsided, performance wise, they were uncompetitive and boring. I like the rest of your list, however.

Would love to see some missions over Norway... Or maybe fly as the 331/332 squadron, in Britain or on the continent. Does anyone know if the Norwegian wing of the RAF was in CLOD?

I vote for European late war. There were so many planes there involved, and there we had the most advanced from every side + the American ones and the Jet Me262 from the Germans.

I would take Pacific, western Europe I've seen so many times in multiple forms - either as a B-17 or others. Its just boring, if someone wants it than there is DCS with their Normandy concept. When complete it might be a real state of art. All the smaller conflicts, such as Khalkin gol or Spain got one limit - they cant be extended, they can only give a single product, would be nice but from development point of view its rather limiting. What is truly interesting is Mediterranean Theater of war in 1941-1942, that would be certainly something :)

oc9ugC.jpg

But I'm looking for more, something far with sun, jungle and mountains - New Guinea fits just perfectly. Plenty of area, great air battles since February 1942 till  May 1944 with balance shifting from one side to the other and unseen anywhere else war of attrition. It's also the area which involved both Japanese Army and Navy but also USAAF, RAAF, RAF and even Dutch pilots. Cant be any better than that :)

So hopefully, one day there will be a room for New Guinea too !

Agree and the pacific has plenty of interesting carrier and land based aircrafts ot offer for future expansions. I've always been fascinated about this war theatre in terms iof it's aviation and missions. Straving beaches, providing fire support to ground troops landing on shore, flying an coordinated torpedo or divebomber attack on huge ships and battlefleets....sounds like a dream come true to me.

But well it's too early to dream. I'll first wait and see how BoM will do as for now.

Pff, my ream was greater. Some Japanese aircraft carried since 1943 radars to locate ships. What is more Japanese crews were trained to proceed with night attacks on enemy warships, first would enter a group dropping illumination flares and they would be followed by torpedo bombers.  Imagine a large scale night mission when a B5N (or H8K2 if someone likes a big mounts) with radar navigates and locates enemy fleet, than the night attack is carried. And there are even more combinations possible ...

Good time will be shortly before the BoM release, I guess soon after BoS was released they decided where to go next ...

Why even include the Pacific in the poll? Hole in the head IMHO as we all knows where that will take us discussion wise. BOM is a budget option to prolong the economical life of the sim, good luck!, and if its successful in that respect I wish for something different, that is a move to 64 bit dx12 sim for today's and tomorrows computers. Stay in CCCP and seek financial support from national resources.

If the title stays successful enough, I would expect one or two more eastern-expansions and then move to med. I mean, with bf 109 e7, f2, f4, g2, macchi, 110, ju 88, he 111, ju 87, 190 and p-40 already ready or coming, there would be serious syn-energy benefits.

II/JG17_HerrMurf

It makes the most financial sense to move to the Med now after BOM for everyone outside of Russia. I think the sim will begin losing interest from most outside of those borders pretty soon if we don't. We can go back after visiting some other theaters to keep it fresh.

Korea would be incredible after the big WW2 and inter-war conflicts are out of the way.  Sure, it would be unbalanced at times with a few high performance jets flying about, but then you have plenty of old ww2 workhorses, aircraft like the Bearcat and Tigercat that missed WW2, helicopters, carrier ops, land-based ops and instead of Allies vs. Axis, you finally get to try allies vs. U.S.S.R. .  What more, I always wanted to kill a high-performance jet powered interceptor in a Po-2!

If done right, it would be the perfect 'endgame' to the IL-2 series, exotic, fast-paced, and would rile up all the old IL-2 1956 fanbois (myself included  :P ).

I'm down for Korea. 262's, however, vs B17's, Typhoons and Mustangs bored me to tears. I'd love some of the post war pistons vs each other too. Bearcat vs La7 vs Ta152 vs Seafury = AWESOME!!!

MTO, Guadalcanal, then back Ost for a late war scenario and finally mid to late war in the west would be my personal roadmap.

The F8F Bearcat never flew in Korea.

It was a pure interceptor designed for short range fleet defense against Kamikaze.  It could carry no bombs either.

It was quickly phased out of service as it no longer had a role that it could meet successfully in the jet era.

The F4U however was a very big part of the ground support carried out by the USMC and Navy.

The Hawker Sea Fury also flew in Korea and actually bagged a Mig 15.

The USAF's first air kill of the war was a Yak 9u shot down by an F-82 Twin Mustang.

Guadalcanal

It would be hard to model, extremely hard  in fact. The area would be great but more importantly the distances would be even greater - between Rabaul and Henderson field there is something like 1050 kilometers in a straight line - with average cruising speed of 300 km/h that gives you over 3 hours to get there and next 3 to get back. That was the real case when Japanese pilots came back to airfield exhausted and almost without fuel. Even if you cut the distance and keep campaign from closer airfields - for example Kahili Airfield on Bougainville to same target - thats is 670 kilometers.

The closes airfield if I recall was located on New Georgia, known as Munda Airfield was opened on December 1st 1942 and functioned till August 1943 - its "only" 320 km from there to Henderson airfield.

Unfortunately the Solomon Islands campaign occurred on large distances and I doubt anyone would be able to fly over 600 km to enemy base ...

Thats why I rather see a New Guinea as a great point for campaign.

And besides, it would be pretty neat to torpedo some stuff near Malta in Sparviero :) MTO is nice, its a second thing I'd like to see - right after PTO :)

Posted

I'd like to see Malta and/or Murmansk.

Some nice anti-shipping action with bombs, rockets and torpedoes.

A mixed bag plane set, especially Murmansk.

Flying across the Med to attack Malta (ships in Valletta harbour) would be challenging as well.
