I'd to deal with sandstorms and desert, see the blue of the med merging with the endless sands of Libya, check wadis for tanks and guns, interdict convoys and fly some wonky Italian machinery.

It says a lot that the MTO is winning the vote in an Eastern Front flight sim forum!

It's a bit of an odd poll. I voted MTO as I'm expecting theatres to be separate products, further maps would be the same product....

Maybe.

I am hoping that someday someone will properly recreate a B-17 campaign in the Europen theater with BoS/ROF technology.  I am thinking SWOTL updated to 2013.

Posted

the Kuban 43 scenario would have some advantages:

- the german fighters are the same as in BoS , so 777 could concentrate on bombers and attack planes at least for the german side

- the soviets used a lot of western build lend&lease planes

- 777 could use its watertechnologie from their RoF channel map.

- Torpedoeattacks with He 111 and (a possible ;) ) A-20 :)

Barbarossa, Crimea, Winter War and Kuban 43.  Either one of this would work.

It would be a crime to jump to a new theatre with so little Eastern Front covered.

What they said :)

I honestly don't see it as a bad business move at all, in fact I see it as the best option. The pacific or european campaign would garner a lot more american interest and lets face it. America is pretty big. Making the objects isn't that time consuming. The planes would take just as much effort as eastern front aircraft. The big time saver cor the pacific is the ease of map making.

However I do think they can flush out the eastern front a little more. But the bigger money lies in more well known theatres.

It would take a significantly longer time to make a different theatre from scratch, than it will take to make another Eastern front addon. They have most of the typical eastern front houses, trees, lots of vehicles, tanks, guns aircraft, typical eastern front fortifications. They did a lot of research already and it is just a matter of choosing the maps, placing things on it and adding the few new aircraft.

If they move away from the Eastern front, we'll be left with just few aircraft for the theater. It's going to be very hard to make historical missions, offline and online campaigns, because of the limited amount of usable aircraft.

One of my beefs with ROF was exactly this. Throwing planes in there based on popularity and completely ignoring those interested in historical scenarios. You had few late war planes, then two early ones, then another two mid war planes and so on.

You never got enough stuff to do a campaign. Just bits and pieces.

By the time we had enough planes for a time period, I lost interest in the whole thing. That way of adding planes is good for "Flying Circus" or "Fast food"  type of play. It gets old really quick.

MTO, but I fully expect something else Russian Front.

PTO would be a disaster IMO, maybe it would work offline, but online players dropped significantly on PTO maps and planesets.

And a big +1 to what Jaws said. We have a 190 in BoS, not because it was there, but because it won a vote on a forum.

well they are capable of af adding about 12 planes a year (if they didn't add any to RoF).  And the other assetts aren't as hard to make.  So theoretically ANY theatre besides the eastern Front would be about the same amount of time.  Like I said earlier, the Eastern front should get s but more flushed out, but I fully expect in 1.5 years after release, that there is a new shiny theatre to play in.

@Uther, I dont remember at all people leaving servers when PTO maps came up in 1946, I actually remembered the opposite myself.  I think there is plenty of support for the pacific, Id just love to get away from 109's and their opposition for once in 8 years.

Good thing some very high up people feel the same way we do, a new theatre actually might happen sooner than later.

Some other places in the ETO would be good. Kuban has been mentionned.

After that, I would like to see the MTO. It's hasn't been done yet and would be a nice change from all the fronts we already saw in the old IL2.

And people say I'm crazy for asking people if maybe they'd like to see 777/1C make a different type of sim in approx. 10 years time.

The game's name is Battle of STALINGRAD. Stick with the program. We have Cliffs of Dover for the Mediterranean and BoB already!

I would love the MTO, but really think they should stick with the East (Kurban etc) until the East is more complete, then MTO, followed by a swing around to the North and expand the current ROF map, is there a limitation on size? Could we fit in England as for as north to incorporate such places as Lincoln and then as far south as Berlin? It's such a big undertaking...I would lover a flyable Defiant as there are some tactics I like to see tested against 109's...Sorry CLod, no, it needs human hands :).

Finally, the Pacific, hmmm where to start/finish. Not sure they can do it all. Finally, off to Korea :). If it doesn't happen n this order, not worried as the bottom line line is I am likely to be happy either way :).

The PTO is where my heart is. And from a design point of view, the scenery includes a lot of water which is not bad to speed up development.

The MTO would be my second choice.

Posted

I voted eastern front but specifically I'd like to see Kuban/Crimea. The reason is simple, lots of lend-lease planes were there and it would allow for fleshing out what's relevant in that area and time period better. It's also a perfect jump off point to the MTO since most of the planes would be ready to go and it would be more about adding in some bombers than anything else.

Way too early to be running a poll like this.

I would love the Pacific early to mid war, carrier ops are so much fun! Especially lots of fun trying not to get my butt kicked in a Zero!

Well that KS has nearly 1,100 backers after 10 days with an average pledge of $72 and that's without being able to show much real material at all. Can't say for sure how many pre-orders BOS has - there was 1,700 in the founders group as of yesterday but plenty more presumably haven't activated yet. Could easily be double that or more in reality. But that's after months of promo work, videos being released, good developer interaction & feedback, etc. If anything your comment proves that there is a great demand for WTO planes given that people are backing without seeing much info yet.

I am very happy to be proven wrong and that you're, hopefully right.

As to BoS, I'm for staying on the Eastern front for awhile, despite looking forward to a MTO or a mid-war Channel front scenario.

I would like to get MTO for NEXT THEATRE, and before moving on to next theatre I would like to have  1 - 3 expansion sets on ETO (maybe Kuban, Kursk and/or Leningrad front).

I really would like to fly above the deserts in the Mediterrian, one day...

But now I cannot wait for turning, burning, booming and zooming in the skys of Stalingrad. First there should be more Maps and some of those perfectly done addons from Desastersoft.

After this great period of time I will be really thankful for a trip to the hot desert after fighting in this cold winter...

Yep the same for me, as soon as Pacific Fighters came out I pretty much quit flying, As someone who always flew German aircraft I couldn't bring myself to fly the Japanese ones and the entire theater has no interest for me.

Same here, i would like to have Kuban and Kursk wich could give us planewise a Bf 110, Hs 129, Ju88..

Best, Allons!

I suspect we will see evolution rather than revolution, assuming we see anything of course

Something Eastern front, either just before or after BoS in the timeline. Given we know there is a 190 and an La5, maybe Kuban or Kursk would not be too big a step. A whole new set of planes, carriers, etc makescenarios like Pacific or Western Europe less likely as far as the investment needed to create them is concerned.

Personally I'd like to see Battle of Britain - Cliffs of Dover but playable perhaps - but I suspect there may be commercial issues with that...................

what do you mean with last sentense? Cliffs of dover runs great on almost all computers now a days with the new patch from TF. Next patch expected befote end of sept will increase

e FPS alot and completelt delete the "plane spotting" issue and will at the same time make the game look ALOT more beautiful (New landscape, new terrain, new seasons.)

People who complain about Cliffs of dover cant have played it since march this year...

After BOS release, they will have a huge amount of Eastern Front specific objects and content. It would be a very bad business move to start from scratch with a new theatre, where they need new planes, new vehicles, new trees, new houses and so on.

I don't think that Barbarossa or Winter War would work that well. Plane set would be quite different and would not offer same syn-energy benefits as Crimea 42 or Kuban 43.

I have, but I don't know what the patch is you are talking about.

For me, the campaign game was a very short throwback to the 90s.

Something with aircraft carriers would be nice.

If everything goes well, I'm sure we'll get it eventually, as it's known the Pacific is Jason's favourite theatre and I've read several times from him he would like to do it.

I just Would love to fly a hurricane or spitfire again over London in the Battle of Britain against German bombers, Bf109's and Bf110's as my virtual career started just there on Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator and never found an equal to that on IL-2 (IL-2 has many other nice things to offer off course).

Its not only the planes and objects for another theatre (like Pacific). The campaign also needs new missiontypes and so on. I don't believe we will move away from the eastern front in the next years.

Ah i see now why I noticed the opposite. M any players like myself love that theatre so when you all jumped out we jumped in. Shame you missed some epic torpeodo runs on Japenese carriers and battleships. That is a harrowing experience!
