Oh, that is beautiful. Never heard of it, but I think it would be pretty effective. Certainly not as slow as a Ju-88 Mistel, so that would make it way more effective.

Pretty unrealistic. The picture is obviously fake, not worth arguing about it.

By the time the 262 was availabel long airstrips nessecary to get it airborne were constant targets of allied bombraids already.

The only thing keeping them grounded was lack of fuel, maintanance parts/new engines or the lack of proper runways to operate them from.

If all those things were given the 262 would have been used as a potent weapon against bomb raids rather than material waisting Mistel bombers (which only came.up when the Luftwaffe saw no need for their bombers after DDay and utilized them in a last attempt to stop the allied advance).

Nice display base there at the bottom of the picture. That is the Trimaster kit if I remember my styrene correctly.

From Wikipedia:

Incidentally, if you look carefully at the original photo, you can see that the forward right wheel on the trolley isn't touching the ground. How likely would that be with at minimum 8 tons of aircraft plus the weight of the trolley itself acting on the suspension?

Later, the technique became more refined, and the bomber component (which was often a new aircraft rather than surplus) was fitted with a specialised 1,800 kg (3,960 lb.) warhead. The final stage of Mistel development was of specialised purpose-built jet-powered bomber components, including ones developed from the Messerschmitt Me 262, the Junkers Ju 287 and the entirely new Arado Ar 234. None of these ambitious schemes had left the drawing board before the end of the war.

That's it. Tghe only one I've ever heared for that had realistic potential was the Arado Mistel project, as neither bombers nor reconnisence planes were needed back in 1945. Of course it had to be carried by a 262 though due to both machines great weight conjuncting them would have proven to be a very difficult task, not to mention provding the pilot with enough controllability to take it off.

The reason why this project made no sense and wasn't developed is that 262s were scare already, getting them airborne and maintained with the quickly shrinking ressources the german ilitary had was a major drawback.

If theyhad been capeable to get a Me 262 Mistel airborne they were doing better to strip it off the bombers bulk and intercept bombers with it rather than flying low and slow only to release a huge inaccurate bomb in a very risky way,
