WindyCityZeke Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I've just finished up unlocking all of the German fighters that I want to, now I'd like to concentrate on one Russian fighter. Which one would you choose if you had to pick one of the fighters in this game to take on the best of the German fighters?
=CFC=Conky Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) Yak-1. Turns well and is relatively quick. Good hunting Edited November 26, 2014 by CFC_Conky
fjacobsen Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Yak-1 or LA-5, dependent on whether Your a Boom and Zoom or Turn and Burn fighter.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Well igs always going to be the Yak. Easy handling combined with moderate to good performance and bugged aerodynamics makes it leave both lags behind easily. The La-5 isnt terrible, but utilizing it's strenghs takes far more skill, patience and situational awareness. Yet it also strongly depends on the situation and turning the tide with it is more difficult than with the yak.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I would spend a little time with yak, lag the la in that order. It doesn't take that long to unlock the basics for each, it wI'll take longer to get all skins etc
Finkeren Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 The Yak is of course the most capable, but there's just no beating the LaGG-3 when it comes to versatility and simply having a good time.
312_Lazy Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) La-5, because I hate her so much. Edited November 26, 2014 by 312_Lazy
=LD=Hethwill Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Lagg. Good interceptor, adequate ground support. Will struggle in a furball but by no means a defenceless bird. Will demand you to treat "her" like a proper lady and "she" will repay the favour.
WindyCityZeke Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks for all the input, I think I'll go with the Lagg 3, it seems to be the most I can learn from. I would think if one can really fly this thing well, then every other plane will be much easier.
Beazil Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) Lag3. If you can fight well in this plane the others will be easier. Just a thought. Of course I'm just talking the fighters. edit: reads windy's last post. doh. Edited November 26, 2014 by Beazil
indiaciki Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 any with 3d thrust vectoring... or the Pe-2
J2_Trupobaw Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 (edited) Depends what you want from it. Yak-1 is probably best easiest against German fighters, but it's undergunned and sucks as interceptor (hard to damage He-111s and Ju-87s with its single popgun cannon). And all its unlocks are bombs and rockets, so while you want to practice dogfighting in it, you probably don't want to bother with getting unlocks for it while your pilot level is low.Lagg is opposite of Yak - it's good interceptor with upgraded cannon (and I saw the 37mm cannon from last unlock rip off wing of He-111 with one burst). It's pleasant ground attack plane, too. Only thing I can't do with it is down German fighters, but I think it was most fun Soviet plane in campaign so far. The unlocks are worth having.La-5 is a BnZ plane with no machine guns. It makes it good interceptor and ground attack plane, but enemy fighters are difficult to hit without MG tracing, so it's again opposite of Yak. You may fing it good gunnery challenge, I've found it frustrating. The last unlock is to good not to have. The first Soviet plane I've fully unlocked was IL-2, it needs these unlocks more than fighters do. Edited November 27, 2014 by Trupobaw
Finkeren Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 The first Soviet plane I've fully unlocked was IL-2, it needs these unlocks more than fighters do. This actually makes a ton of sense, and was more or less what I did as well (I've been back-and-forth between almost all the planes, but IL-2 is what I flew most in the beginning.) With the IL-2 it really feels like you're making progress with every single unlock you complete.
DeafBee Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Yak-1 Personally my favorite fighter plane in this sim. In the right hands it can outturn all the german planes. I never liked Boom and Zoom planes so Yak-1 is my choise.
Ala13_Kike Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Yak It's very fast, only I flight 109f4 or G2, and it's very difficult to catch..or impossible, depend of the situation
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 S! Pe-2. Fighter pilots make stories, bomber pilots history.
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Fighter,the dumptruck.. LaGG 3, bomber the PE-2.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 The Lagg-3 is the most fun VVS fighter indeed. It's a good looking, mediocore performing heavy forniture van but that 23mm is just too much fun. Yak is more the easy way. Personally I find it a little too cheap due to it's FM bugs, but that's a different story. Flying the Lagg I have a completely different feeling of flight, a different feeling of combat. It's just so special in many ways I don't regret any second I spend in it, be it as the victor or victored. It's a matter of taste, flying style and personal impression which suits you best. La-5 and Yak surely lead the competition on russian fighters but a Lagg-3 can easily just be as deadly as those if flown purposely.
FlatSpinMan Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Yay. Pleased to see some love for the LaGG3. It's such a nice plane to fly. It reminds me of the Hurricane in some ways - less glamorous, not so capable, but reliable and beautiful in its own way.
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Me too FSM. its the fighter of choice for me, if and when I fly a fighter. Jack of all trades, master of none...but the Dumptruck gets it done!
Finkeren Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Yak It's very fast, only I flight 109f4 or G2, and it's very difficult to catch..or impossible, depend of the situation Don't mean to sound denigrating, but if you can't catch a Yak in the Bf 109 (especially the G2 with unlimited time at 100%throttle) then it's either piloting error on your part or a case of him having so large energy advantage, that you shouldn't have engaged him to begin with.
Ala13_Kike Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 True, bad deccisions pkaying implicate bad end
