Gambit21 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I think he was going for "what?" ala Pulp Fiction.
Bearcat Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 It's all me, me, me with you isn't it? Is it so difficult to look at things from other people's perspective? If people say they would like a certain option, whether or not you would use that particular option is of no relevance whatsoever. The only important factors, when considering an optional feature, should be: Can it be done? Can it be done in a way that doesn't break another feature? Can it be done in a cost-effective manner? Any other considerations are pointless. The more options: the more potential customers - it really is that simple. I agree 100%. No, that's just to say not everyone is attracted to flight sims because they can turn off the cockpit. Many are attracted to sims because they like the cockpit, it's the chief distinguishing feature of a game like this vs World of Warplanes Obviously the answer to all of the above is "no" because the developers already stated they wouldn't add this feature. No but for those who are... Do a search on this forum. Look for posts from about a year or so ago. There were people asking about open pits. Just because you do not like a feature or would never use it does not mean that it is not a viable option Sharpe. It's not a feature new players are going to look for. Only the old IL-2 players keep asking for it because that game had it. There's no new people coming online here and asking "Why is there a cockpit in my plane?" And it's only in the WWII era because of old IL-2. Over on DCS or RoF there aren't multi page threads asking for Wonder Woman planes. "This sucks I can't turn off the cockpit in my Sukhoi-27!" Just here... Yes please This is flawed reasoning.. Do that search I suggested. Because I can't recall a post on any of these forums that goes "I'm totally new to flight sims but I'm wondering why do I see a cockpit when I'm in "cockpit view"? Or a post on DCS that asked "This F-15 cockpit view sucks how do I turn it off?" They already said no a long time ago. Search is your friend. Because you cannot recall it does not mean it does not exist. There are also other reasons for a no cockpit view. Film makers use the no cockpit view all the time. The more options a sim has, the more it is amenable to user created input be it missions, movies, skins, utilities or whatever.. the more the community can be involved in the sim without crodssing that line where they are altering the essence of the sim.. as in changing DMs, FMs and that kind of stuff .. the better that sim will sell and the longer it will last. As if anyone needed any more evidence that we have stooges posting on the forums. What really really tickles me is the possibility that some of the robots with the "must defend my masters" responses might actually be doing so of their own volition. E1 please check your PMs. I think 777/1C has made the right decision on many aspect of this and RoF. Sometimes that means not giving in to every single request made by the community. That's especially important developing a WWII sim. The last one crashed and burned doing exactly that. I'm sad to inform you that they aren't adding a flyable Su-26 stunt plane with laser guns, drivable ground vehicles and a menu where you can select your pilots clothes either... Let's just not go there at all please. Oh look! somebody had a quick bash at Cliffs of Dover when confronted with a criticism of BOS, how unusual...... This is why. It starts a ball rolling that will wind up in all participants being given vacations. Whicch I don't want to happen so KNOCK IT OFF. Sharpe and bongo incoming.
DD_bongodriver Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I think he was going for "what?" ala Pulp Fiction. I think he understood that and took it in the spirit it was meant.
DD_Arthur Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Just for the sake of speculation what do you think would have happened to CLoD if instead of TF the official production had continued with the programmers who actually had the code? now remember they were already working on a battle of Moscow add-on and showed us some of the planes they already had. My personal take on it would be that the 2 years that has transpired since 2012 would have brought us the BoM along with all the major bugs fixed along with missions ,campaigns, skins and a rich and diverse MP community....but like i said...speculation. I seem to see this a lot lately. Without the amazing efforts of Team Fusion Cliffs would be abandonware. Here's what the lead dev of 1C's Cliff team - a team of over fifty-five btw - had to say; It goes without saying for me, and that's why it might be hard to gather that from my reply, but it's obviously OUR fault for single-player being what it is and 3rd party support not showing up. Your general criticism is spot on. We shipped a product that had too many technical issues for us to really focus on finer elements of gameplay. There had never been a point, we're not even there today, where we could sit back, look at the code, and say, hell, what a great foundation, let's build a great game on top of it. The GUI especially is our Achilles heel. Like I wrote earlier in the thread, somebody somewhere before I ever showed up chose to make it in a horrible clumsy environment called WPF. By the time I showed up it was too late to go back, and going forward proved extremely painful. Each new screen took forever, everything was clunky, tiny changes or bug fixes required insane amounts of effort, and in the end it took a tremendous painful effort to reach the decidedly insufficient GUI that we have today. It's extremely painful and frustrating for everyone involved. Believe me.
Bearcat Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 .. and on that note since this has turned into another one of those threads..
