Here are a few tips that I've noticed some don't know and can be good to know.

  1. Press I to hide the compass and your plane from the "O" map. It helps make the campaign in expert mode a bit more fun. I think it also removes ground unit dots from the map.
  2. In the replay viewer, in external cameras, you can rotate the view using the mouse, but only when the HUD is hidden (press H). You can also use the numeric keys, but not when the time bar is visible. The time bar is made visible whenever you move the mouse while the hud is visible. It disappears after a few seconds if you don't move the mouse.
  3. You can greatly improve the visuals of the terrain with little or no performance impact by editing a file, terrain.ini. See http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12501-you-also-think-bos-beautiful-how-about-making-it-absolutly-g/?do=findComment&comment=194292 for details.
  4. You can  disable motion blur when moving the head by disabling "cinematics" in the camera options.
  5. The calm weather landing mission starts you with 100% fuel by default, which makes landing more difficult. If you are finding it hard to land smoothly, try with 50% fuel.
  6. Good to know for people coming from War Thunder: unlike that game, BOS allows you to record free flight sessions. Simply press ctrl+r. Useful when practicing landing to see what you did wrong.

That's all I could think, but I'm sure there is more. Feel free to add your own.

Great post, however you should switch 6 and 2 in order.

7. You can remove your plane dead-weight by pressing ctrl + e  ;)

Have fun in the sky !

"Automating" this tip: Add the key (O) for turn OFF/ON instruments - besides the default (I). So be pressing (O), map without "GPS". ;) Exchange M and O functions is a good idea for EXPERT mode only players.

9. When start a QM is need unpause (P) the game, and (if you don't like this) press (H) to hide the ugly icons. Adding (P) for Hide/Show HUD,  result in mission running with clear screen with one key press (P) - there "Less keys is better"

10. Axis behavior can be modified with Alt, Ctrl, Shift and Win keys (right and leff). This allow create a "Park brake" (actually not activated be default keys).

Awesome, I never thought to use the "O" key when playing.  Makes Expert mode so much less of a pain in the butt when it comes to navigation.  Also helps finding the enemy which I find in this game to be very difficult, but I hate having to use icons.

Thanks for the tips.

They need another level, probably called "full real" or similar, where #1 is the law.

Need the map to know where you are, and need to identify, somehow, which ground targets are friend or foe.

May need better intelligence briefings.

For that we need a knee pad map :) ( and a full map with O key editable like we have in ArmA for raid plotting, share with side, with group, etc )...

... damn, getting ahead of myself again.

I forget, can you turn off technochat but keep everything else active? Or turn off everything EXCEPT icons in the normal mode. I fly expert occasionally now but have to settle for normal until mid January due to my work schedule. I was about to dive into the search function till I saw this header.

I have the knee pad map, but the damn app cannot paint on big .pfd's. And sharing would be nice, but i guess it is impossible for the small dev team to care about such nice to have stuff.

Map the same key (or button) used "AirBrakes on/off (Stuka dive brake) for "Attack Siren on/off".

So extend the dive brakes engage the "Jerico's Trumpet", raise the dived brakes stop. In this case "Less keys is better"

Press and hold keypad , (Del) give a glance a instrument panel look, be pressing this key twice this glance view became a fixed view, useful for IFR.

To go back to default view press keypad 5 (Reset camera).

Work for others glance view too - keypad ,(Del) + keypad numbers.
