pilotpierre Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 A much as I hate to admit it, I am bored and and unhappy with the gameness of BoS (after release) and am giving very serious thought about getting back into CoD. I have the original collectors edition but uninstalled it before any mods came out. After installation of CoD and Steam is it like the original IL2 whereby mods had to be installed in sequence or is there one all encompassing mod and what is the best forum currently?
jaydee Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hi PP. Check ATAG out. All your questions will be answered. Nice bunch of guys too ! http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5058&p=52711
Pringliano Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 PP, it's very simple really. Just install from Steam, then get the patches from the link above, and install them in sequence, just making sure that you re-start the sim each time you apply one patch. Beware that you may get AV Trojan alerts for patch 4.0. Apparently false positives as I was latter able to determine :-) il-2 clod was a completely unexpected surprise for me. I still will use DCS World and BOS, but honestly, CloD is really overwhelming and I am admiring every detail about it. The ATAG community is also a great one, very helpful, and their servers are really mandatory, as well as the "Storm of War" servers. I look fwd o find you in clod's skies, although there is still a long way before I feel ok to go online.
pilotpierre Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Thanks, I checked out the website and it also says to install from steam. I have the DVD so why do I have to download through steam and presumably pay for it again? Have also asked this question on the ATAG forum.
DD_bongodriver Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Cliffs is activated through steam, you won't have to pay again.
Pringliano Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 But I believe registering at Steam is still needed for that activation ? I actually only used Steam for MS FLIGHT, Aerofly FS and now CloD
DD_bongodriver Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 But I believe registering at Steam is still needed for that activation ? Yes, you need a steam account but it doesn't cost anything
pilotpierre Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Thanks for the responses guys. I had a steam account for CoD when it first came out so presumably it will still be active. I will check it out tomorrow.
Kling Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Oh and you definately should give the Storm of war server a go!! The feeling of being being vectored to the enemy by real human operating the radar is amazing! Hearing things as "blue section, turn 20degrees left and keep your eyes open, there should be bandits out there 20 miles, angles 15 heading straight for you!" and then spotting a large formation of 20 bombers escorted by 109s forcing you to fight for your life, is undescribable!! 1
354thFG_Leifr Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Another vote for the Storm of War server. Their website can be found here if you're looking for more information. Every Sunday evening has a special mission being run where the Red and Blue forces are vectored on to their targets by human ground controllers! It's very, very exciting.
wellenbrecher Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) Storm of War with the Sunday event is utterly fantastic. Red side has human ground control leading you in, Blue will have it at some point as well once they get the code for the Freya radar working. Highly recommended. Not to say that the server is bad during the week - on the contrary! - but the Sunday event takes the cake. The ATAG campaign has a similar system and at least one more mission to go. And eithe rlate this year or early next year a consistent campaign on SoW will start, so look forward to that. "Longbow to Tophat control." "This is Longbow." "Scramble, climb to Angels 20." "Roger that, Tophat control." *to the flight* "In Hurricanes, really?" *later when we bloody finally arrive at alt* "Tophat is going to send us into a group of 109s anyway, haha." "Longbow to Tophat control." "This is Longbow." "Longbow, engage 109s at Angels 5." ... Screw you, ground control! Good, good fun. Edited November 24, 2014 by [JG2]G3_wellenbrecher
pilotpierre Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) When I tried to extract mod 4.0 Mcaffee wouldt because of a file containing a trojan. Jcomm also got this but it turned out to be a false positive, did anyone else get this? Edited November 25, 2014 by pilotpierre
Chuck_Owl Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I did too. I use McAfee and Kaspersky. McAfee gave me a false positive while kaspersky, malwarebytes, spybot and adaware found nothing.
Pringliano Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 PP, I really believe there's no harm in that piece of code other than the way it is written, which has a signature very close to some malware exploits. I also had Kaspersky 2014 and it gave me a positive, and always deleted the file, so I couldn't install Patch #4. I decided to give Panda 2015 a try, and it is now my PC Av solution.
Felix58 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hello Pierre, What do you mean by gameyness? - just curious. I still have a look at CLoD occasionally. I like the plane-set, esp JU88 and my favourite, the bf110. I actually prefer BOS (marginally) because, for me, I seem to be able to spot other aircraft easier than CLoD. Always losing sight of all aircraft (friend and foe) in CLoD. I'm still optimistic that BOS will get a further polish and have fingers crossed for a workable scenario editor. Plus I enjoy the ground attack role so BOS has much more variety in that aspect. Would like to spend more time with the pe-2. Think that would be fun with a few others online. Anyway, good luck with CLoD, the TF guys have done some nice work. Check back with BOS though!
VRPilot Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 ATAG Server on Friday and Sat. evening a 100 players online. As much as I like BoS, CoD is somehow more fun to fly online (and offline). ATM the more "complete" game + Spit vs. 109 is the ultimate definition of dogfighting.
Pringliano Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) For me the major deception with BOS started long ago when I noticed it didn't have clickable cockpits. I can understand there being a way of doing things without having to interact with the cockpit, but I still think there should always be the alternative for those wanting to do it that way! Then, as I started digging more into the details of the flight dynamics modeling, I got somehow deceptioned with many unplausible aspects of what I consider basic elements of a flight simulation. I gave up for now. Maybe I'll give it a 2nd chance if something changes in a way I find worth the re-install.... OTOH I feel more and more attracted by almost all of the features / aspects of CloD. Find CloD's FDM way ahead of what is offered by BOS right now too, the stability even when flying online with 60 or more other fellows, well... truly a winner for me this il2 clod! Edited November 25, 2014 by jcomm
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Pierre your own your way to an enjoyable experience. Happy hunting. Chief
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 S! Sneaky jabo attacks are enjoyable in Clod, not the usual senseless furballing mid-channel.
Emgy Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) Just turn off antivirus while installing the game and mods. Turning it off while playing games usually reduce loading times as well. I got somehow deceptioned In English (and Latin), "disappointed" is the word you're looking for in this context! For some reason, French/Spanish/Portuguese use this word differently than did the ancient Romans and modern English. Edited November 25, 2014 by Calvamos
Pringliano Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 In English (and Latin), "disappointed" is the word you're looking for in this context! That's it of course thanks for the correction! ;-)
pilotpierre Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 Unfortunately this has not turned out well. I assigned the control settings without any problems while the mods were downloading (and they all woked fine in game), then loaded mods 3.0 and 3.01 (opening the game and choosing a quick flight between the 2 installations.) When I tried to control the a/c after installing 3.01 all my settings had been wiped. Now when I try to assign axis they all immediately default to "Joystick+Z axis" and cant be changed. I posted this on the ATAG forum hoping to get some answers: "Additionally I now have a problem whereby under Axis settings every thing I try to assign to my CH Pro throttle and CH quad throttle keeps coming up with a default Joystick Axis Z I had the same problem initially with trying to assign Rudder to my CH pedals and elevator and aileron to my CH Combat stick but eventually managed to be quick enough to beat the default." Any ideas would be appreciated. I would like to ditch my controls setting file as I suspect it might be corrupt. If someone coud PM me a copy of theirs to try I would be most appreciative.
Felix58 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 At patch 4.312 my menu system went awry. And the map at the select a base stage flickers!
Pringliano Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Well PP, I just also posted at the ATAG forum. For me it all went without any problems other than the fact that Kaspersky persistently deleted my MOD 4 patch exe file ... I eventually uninstalled Kaspersky and went for PANDA 2015, which is also a good AV right now. But, back to CloD, a few things differentiate the steps I followed from your's... 1) I Installed CloD from Steam ( I actually only adhered to Steam because of MS FLIGH, in 2011, and then latter Aerofly FS too ). After installing from Steam, I disabled the "Cloud updates" as was already mentioned at the ATAG forum. 2) Only after 1) did I proceed with the patching, but while I did start the sim after each patch was applied, and chose a QM, I never configured the controllers UNTIL I reached the final stage, with CloD patched up to 4.312! 3) It is normal for the axis to get a predefined joystick set. I then click on it and define it again. This has been a very simple process for me. I just made sure I cleared all of the default axis assignments, because there were some defined that were not input by me. CloD creates a folder under your "Documents", and the MOD folder next to that one is created by the TF patches. I have the Steam engine and the simulators in a separate partition from C: too, but I don't think this plays any role in your case. Whenever you want to modify any config files ( I've done it already to fine tune the graphics... ) I edit the files that are stored directly under the Steam folder. They get replicated in the MOD folder under "Documents" when I restart the simulator.
pilotpierre Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 All sorted thanks to the good guys on rhe ATAG forums. It was simply a matter of ditching all the ini files in the mods folder, flashing the game up through steam and reassigning all the controls. I have to say it was worth the effort, scenery and ground objects are stunning, better than I remember from 3 years ago when I uninstalled it. Bravo Zulu Team Fusion. 1
avlSteve Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I've also fired up CLoD recently, mapping controls, etc. I love me some green in a flight sim. I really feel lucky to have bos, dcs, clod, rof, and muromets. Still lookin' for that do-all end-all WW2 sim like I thought '46 was a few years ago, but with everything better and more of it. I suppose I'll die before it gets there, but I am grateful to the ones that have done the grunt work to get us where we are right now.
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 S! I had some flickering on Cliffs, especially in menus etc. But that seemed to cure itself by setting "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" to the Launcher.exe properties. Running on Windows 10 Technical Preview
indiaciki Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 had no problems. bought cod on steam and installed all patches. though I think planes in cod have even less weight / mass than bos
Pringliano Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 (edited) had no problems. bought cod on steam and installed all patches. though I think planes in cod have even less weight / mass than bos Hmmm, pilotpierre made a similar comment regarding cod. I wonder if that might result somehow from the use of the headshaking option? At least the fighters and bombers in cod can't be rolled like I've seen a few being rolled in bos.... Flying the He111 also feels a lot more "heavy" to me than it's bos counterpart... and in the Ju88 I do not find those weird problems with yaw I get in bos too... Edited November 27, 2014 by jcomm
Felix58 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 PS sorted my CLoD issue with some advice from ATAG. Razer Game Booster was the culprit.
pilotpierre Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 Hello Pierre, What do you mean by gameyness? - just curious. UNLOCKS, cant reset stats, only one pilot Profile, the large yellow lettering "You have took off" etc.
Mysticpuma Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 UK price for IL2: Cliffs of Dover Steam Sale, just £5.99 until December 2nd: http://store.steampowered.com/app/63970/
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Just a note to everyone ..... Team Fusion is working on a "ONE" patch updater ...... when it's ready it should ease some of the headaches in patching up. Remember to run your game after each patch and I would suggest not assigning controls till you are completely patched up. Chief
pilotpierre Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 Am I correct in believing that if all config files are copied or removed from the mods folder prior to patching and then replaced when patching is complete, the controls settings would be saved without losing any other required data from the patches. Or, is it just one or two of the config files should be saved, if so which ones? Chuck on the ATAG forums suggested two but asked for confirmation from others which wasnt forthcoming. I'm at Patch 3.01 T present and am reluctant to patch further until I am confident I am not going to lose my settings sgain.
Chuck_Owl Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I do believe that your controls are stocked in the ConfUser.ini file. If you are not sure, just copy this file on your desktop (to make sure) and then patch. I never encountered any issue while updating between 3.01 and 4.0. Just install all patches in the required order and you should be fine.
SOLIDKREATE Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Tried ATAG servers lastnight and I could not take off despite having the plane set up to do so. It just sat there at full throttle no parking on at all.
Sokol1 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Released the (virtual) "parking brake"? Planes spawn whit him engaged.
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Tried ATAG servers lastnight and I could not take off despite having the plane set up to do so. It just sat there at full throttle no parking on at all. Did you possibly not set your prop pitch properly? Depending on the aircraft you get you have to set it or you will rev your engine to death and barely move. Chief
Chuck_Owl Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Tried ATAG servers lastnight and I could not take off despite having the plane set up to do so. It just sat there at full throttle no parking on at all. Could you please explain 1) What aircraft you tried to fly 2) What you did to get it started (step by step) Knowing that we'll find what you did wrong and get you up in the air in no time.
Pringliano Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Or... did you forget to take the chocks off ? Some airplanes respawn with them set, apart from the parking brakes!
