What is a 'Profile' for a J-Stick, and how do we make this easy?

S! Sirs!

I have a Saitek X-65F. Also Track- IR.

When someone says " Oh!- That's EASY!" = I cringe.

Any possibility that some of you 'Professionals' may see some Instructional openings under this 'heading' ?

I've never fooled with joystick profiles before.  Too lazy, and haven't felt the need.  I'd like to see some examples of where it's useful.

I did have a keyboard profile that I created for IL2 '46 that mapped a couple of keys to manually lower and raise the gear.  The software would allow me to emulate a series of keystrokes, in this case, "press this button 50 times as fast as you can".

I assume that something similar can be done using the software that comes with some controls.  Regarding "easy", hopefully the documentation is good.

"Profile" for joystick is make a config - using the joystick software - for the buttons/hats send "keyboard press", e.g. button 4 press Space key that in game drop bombs (so, if accidentally you hit the space bar...  :P ).

Their convenience is, load a different game, load the proper profile, or even a specific profile for specific plane on a give game.

Or, like the above example do macros to "game" the game, example, instead do a proper key sequence for eject in DCS A-10, just press an button for do this (or extend/retract the F4F landing gear in il-2'46). ;)

I love using profiles for my Warthog with the Target software for it. I started out using the advanced GUI, then eventually got into learning the scripting with the script editor, to create my profiles for my flight sims.

The learning curve is a little steep for the script editor, especially for someone not well versed in scripting such as myself, but once I got the hang of it the depth of what one can do with it for the controls is incredible.

S! Sirs;

How do we make "Profiles" - easy to 'Newbs/Me'.

EG- Who can build a Number of -  'BASE' Profiles for a stick.

An importance to a 'Base' Profile for a Stick, Would be = Track IR or not.

= " Base " profile.

Multiple 'Profile's is why I opened this post.

I am looking for those who grasp my concept of -

First things first. It is easy but requires work.

A profile is a full map of keys you going to use in any given game. Basically you can create different profiles for different games and change them when needed.

As I said - map of keys - and that is the whole concept of a profile and the Saitek profiler is pretty much straightforward. IIRC the X65 has a whole new software but remains the same.

You choose a joystick command ( it will blink on the software ) and then you assign a keystroke or combination to be assigned to that joystick button.

THEN, in the game you set that "command" you just created to whatever control you wish.

Say you want a "open bomb bay doors" command.

1. Decide which joy button you going to use.

2. Decide which keyboard combination you want to use

3. Define keyboard combination on the game controls

4. Map that keystroke on the button you want it on the Saitek profiler

Rinse and repeat for all commands you wish.

Save profile with adequate name.

BONUS: You can have 4 keys layout on the same profile - with the mode switch nob, so basically you can have a Fighter, a Twin engine, Bomber Sight controls in the same profile. You only need to switch your Mode.

Follow the Saitek profiler manual. It is pretty straightforward and clear.

No way around it unless you find someone with a good profile.

What happens is that you will have to map their profile IN GAME as well, so the keystrokes are the same as in the profile.

( EASY WAY OUT of this is not to make a profile and use the default commands, the negative side is that you can't use different command switches nor the hold combo button )

Have fun!

Klien, quite frankly, you can't expect other people to spend their time creating a profile for you to use, when in fact Saitek included a manual with the X-65 on how to do that very thing, and there are plenty of online guides that will help you through the process as well.
