Woo66 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Hi everyone! First of all, my apologies if this question is "common sense" but I couldn't find anything in the forums about the 'problem' I'm experiencing at moment. I'm a bit of a noob. I recently bought the amazing Microsoft Force Feedback 2 praised by many of you. This gem works like a charm with most of the games I tried. (ROF is probably the best one regarding the force feedback management) I obviously tried it with BOS and was surprised that a strong left rolling tendency occured with all the Russian planes (LA 5 included). Basically, once I get enough speed, force feedback tends to pull my joystick towards the left if I don't correct it myself. It does not come back to center position by itself. Is it what we call the Torque effect? The funny thing is that both 109's are not affected by this 'issue'. The joystick remains perfectly in the center position like in ROF for instance. I use the roll trimmer to correct it a bit but I'm wondering if it's not caused by my FFB2? I previously used the T. Flight Hotas X so it's my first FFB stick and I'm not sure about the usual behaviour with this technology. I hope my description of the problem is clear enough! Many thanks in advance
Woo66 Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 Hahah actually I was about to blame Staline, but then I realised that the Stuka does the same thing! Both Nazi and Communist plot though.
BlackDevil Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) Something is wrong, but too less facts to tell the reason. The FFB2 should be centering itself in all plane. Edited November 21, 2014 by BlackDevil
andyw248 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 When I fly single engine aircraft in RL none of them ever has the yoke/stick centered just by itself. Depending on factors such as airspeed, angle of attack, power/rpm, wheels out or in, etc there's always a need to help the yoke/stick with this. I would have to apply constant rudder pressure in one direction or the other, or if trim is available I constantly adjust that trim as the parameters mentioned above keep changing. Among the Soviet planes, the LaGG and the La-5 have trim for all 3 axis. You can map them to buttons or levers that are convenient to you, and then you will just keep adjusting them while you fly. That should mitigate the issue (unless there's a problem that is specific to FFB but I don't have FFB so I wouldn't know).
Woo66 Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Thanks for the replies guys, I guess it's a weird bug with my joystick and BOS, it's the only game where I had this problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game with default settings. Still there, having a strong pull towards the left once the plane is airborne, not centering by itself. The alternative solution was to disable force feedback in the options. No shaking or anything but at least I get the "center spring" which is better than nothing.
BlackDevil Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Most probably you got the swapped axis problem. You can't do that manually in BoS like in DCS. If the FFB2 is reported to BoS by Windows, the axis will be swapped automatically. But if Win fails to do so, you get your problem. You are not alone: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/10316-ms-ffb2-swapped-axis/ ...but the guy didnt get a solution Edited November 22, 2014 by BlackDevil
