MarcoRossolini Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Noticed this pretty good looking Kickstarter called Melee: Battlegrounds... looks pretty interesting to be honest. To judge by the number of people who want to use Medieval weapons on Zombies, you might be interested in this... Some of their concepts are very exciting to be honest, especially the battlegrounds idea. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1601737664/melee-battlegrounds-spiritual-successor-to-the-crp
johncage Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 this is just a warband/war of the roses clone. i see nothing innovative. and if the visual style is anything to go by, i think those guys are in over their heads. 1
=LD=Hethwill Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Was there when crpg started and when it evolved to what it has become. Great coding, great concept when it started. Horrible turn out with the "mmoxpgrindozorzgalore". Defeated the whole purpose of Warband. No thanks. 1
unreasonable Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Not sure about this either: Mount & Blade is one of my favourite games of all times, but I have to admit my most fun characters avoided melee combat whenever possible - why risk your neck when you can lance them at a distance, shoot them full of arrows or pay your retainers to do the dirty work?
kongxinga Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Not supporting this one, Chadz the donkey is a huge troll, a horse hater, and a horse archer hater, who places little import on historical accuracy. He basically played favorite with classes (2 handers) leaving everything else in the dust. I went there and guess what I saw? More idiotic 2 handers, even though 2 handers were a very specialized weapon that was pretty much flanking use only. 2 handers versus sword and board/buckler means a dead 2 hander very soon, as any medieval fencing dabbler can tell you. Not to mention horse archers were the killer application of medieval times, but he nerfed them to unplayability so his beloved 2 handers dont get shot silly. As a simmer I am dislike his petty balancing took precedence over historical reality (did I mention he loved to make fun of people who desired historical accuracy over waving stupid 2 handers). It is if the Il-2 BOS developers made Lagg-3 faster than it really was because "balance", aka an utter travesty. My favorite mount and blade modders are WilliamBerne (China at War) and njis (Mount and Blade actual dev to an extent, made Empires of Faith <--Super historical immersion). Chadz is a trolling donkey hack. Wow Hethwill you played crpg too? I coined the xp barn term, later was the few die hard horse archers doing no damage due to nerfs. =LD=Hethwill Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Did all the warband alpha, beta, everything, and I must say that from all the games I ever participated in, early on, Taleworlds was the BEST development team ever, for many reasons. Eventually I moved to other games but still none reaches their stance towards passion to really make a game, and it is hard to point this or that. It is simply that and all the testers did their best as well. Great community. Eventually life had its way but we still retain that same feeling - best dev/community game development ever. Shiny jewel was organizing the match ( at the end of the beta ) between the developers and the players. Was epic. PsykoOps apparently recorded it. Armagan and his crew tasted their own poison. We played for hours and then everyone had a great time in TS just chatting and brainstorming. Truth is, the game is still one of the most fun to play, in all variants. Hoping for Bannerlord to be as good. My favourite mods... hard to choose. But I must give my hands to Arch3r. The Invasion mod is terrific. Nowadays I play Napoleonic more, 87th Royal Irish Fusilier Edited November 22, 2014 by =LD=Hethwill_Khan
SOLIDKREATE Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 That art of the Germanic Saxony Knight is AWESOME!
kongxinga Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) I was there from in Beta too. I loved the spontaneous organized fights, shield walls, massed charges that unfortunately went away on release. Wrote the bio for one of the quick battle characters (the default one, Rodrigo de Braganca). Armagan really had passion and Mount and Blade the original took years in the making. I remember when it was just Zendar. Chadz donkey trolled me so hard I am still bitter that historical accuracy became a punching bag in CRPG. I might pick up Napoleonic wars, but I am still peeved there is no Turkey. Invasion mod was among the first mods if I remember (along with Hunt mod , hunters versus werewolves). The full invasion version got kinda corny (potatoes and too many bizarre factions). I liked with Fire and Sword since it was Cavalry/ Shield and archery oriented to a decent degree. johncage Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 who places little import on historical accuracy surely a kiss of death for anyone who is interested in the historical and authentic side of things. thanks for the notice.

Man, remember all that. First Sunday organized battles with 22nd, the Generals server we hosted ( kind of a total war humans vs AI commanded by humans ). Hunt mod was fun for a little time. I remember the "contest" for the characters bio. Well done with yours But back to original subject, no way i'm going to kickstart a cRPG on another engine, but then I'm glad to have supported War of Rights and Battle Cry of Freedom. Both from Napoleonic mod crews and definitely worth to support.
9./JG27golani79 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Regarding medieval melee combat I´m currently waiting for Bannerlord - probably will get the Viking Conquest DLC for Warband too. And there are still some unfinished kickstarter projects which I´ve backed so I´m laying low on supporting additional productions - unless someone´s making a game for which I´ve wished for a very long time :D Edited November 22, 2014 by golani79
