190 speed and pitch control

Just started flying the 190 in campaign and boy is this thing fast.  I'm having a real problem with maintaining a speed at which I can pull up.  I find myself unable to pull into a firing solution when diving on bombers.  Any ideas what I can do to this thing to help out in a high speed dive.

Check your stabilizer. I noticed mine was set to like 75% for some reason which created insane g-lock.

It accelerates fast into a dive, and even at a moderate throttle setting (say 2300 rpm) as you start your dive you will have ample speed even if you throttle back, so the first thing you can do is to try attacks at a (much) lower throttle setting and/or at a shallower angle. After a certain point, excess speed in an attack is really a disadvantage!

How do we check the stabilizer and what is the best setting? Thanks.

If you go to settings/plane controls (or somesuch) you will find a series of keys saying something like "adjust stabilizer up/down". For the Fw190 the stabilizer in the RL plane is adjusted by buttons and the devs have decreed that this means that you have to map two buttons on keyboard or hotas, one for up, one for down.

Once you have done this, go to quick mission on runway, look at outside view and press the buttons. The first button press will just allow the game to recognize the buttons, after that you can see the stabilizer in front of the elevators move as you press. What you need to keep in mind is which button makes the plane more nose heavy, which more tail heavy.

The setting you need is going to vary throughout flight depending on how fast you are going and what you want to do, so you need to experiment. In the Fw190 you can see the setting in the cockpit, a little dial indicator near your left hand.

If you are diving too fast, making the plane tail heavy will help you pull out, but the best cure is to control your speed in the dive to avoid the problem in the first place.

Fortunately we can experiment and learn from fatal mistakes, unlike RL! Good luck.

Yep, that did it.  Thanks.  Wonder why the 190 and 109 have separate stabilizer key bindings.  Must have worked different in RL.

109: actuated via a wheel (analog)

190: actuated via electrical switch (digital)

so its correct the way it is.

I use the up/down cursors on the keyboard and that makes it very easy.

As stated, use a shallower angle as the Fw builds speed in a hurry while diving. You have to plan your attacks well in advance.

You can use the stabilizer for trim and it will give you extra deflection for pulling out of a dive if you get a little behind the power curve. Dont dive in the vertical or exceed 670-700 kph unless you have plenty of altitude to work with, due to elevator stiffening. Listen to the wind over your Perspex. It gives you a lot of information regarding speed when you learn what to listen for.

Well, the 190/152 isn't "digital" by any stretch of the imagination.  It is, basically, identical to the "analog" 109 (and the Piper Cub  ...) except the jackscrew is powered by an electric motor.  I have always wondered why the game uses different keys for the different trim designs when the difference to the pilot is meaningless.  It amounts to an unnecessarily complicated keyboard layout, although "correctable".

You only need one digit to work it.  ;)
