VA_DontSnk Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Would it be worth upgrading this soon? I paid 349.99 for my 770 2gb one year ago today but all this talk about the 970 4gb has me itching especially after I fired up far cry 4 last night and watched my 770 struggle. Would the 4gb vram benifit ROF and BOS any one a single 1080p 21" monitor?
DD_Arthur Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Frankly, I don't know but it does occur to me that your i5 will eeeeeasily over clock to 4ghz and a bit beyond so I'd give that a go first. However, if you haven't done any over clocking before then I'd have a good read around before trying it.
Robcart944 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 If you have EVGA's Precision X installed, run the numbers on the graph and look at the column showing memory usage. That will tell you how much of your memory is being used. I would think this sim would use more than 2GB GPU memory but probably backs down the usage for what you have.
victorhs258 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 What about running SLI? Adding a second GTX 770. I mention that as I was in the same situation and couldn't decide so I just got a second card. No issues, and everything on highest possible settings.
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 (edited) S! Single 970GX better than the 770GTX SLI, in my opinion. Lower wattage + still VERY good performance. At the moment 970GTX has the best bang for the buck ratio. Edited November 30, 2014 by LLv34_Flanker
dburne Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I just recently went from a GTX 770 to an EVGA GTX 970 FTW, so far very pleased with the results.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I would just get another 770 and use sli if u can, u will most likely get better performance than one 970
MoUa Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 770 is fine, theres also a 770 with 4gb, but more than 2gb is just for multi monitors really
Zettman Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 770 is fine, theres also a 770 with 4gb, but more than 2gb is just for multi monitors really S! You will need more VRAM if play on high resolutions. A LG34 UM95 with 3440x1440 and additional using DSR will fill up your VRAM quiete fast. Im at 2,4 GB VRAM usage at the moment (1.2 DSR) and ultra settings. But I agree, if you just want to play on 1920x1080 without DSR, 2 GB should be more than enough. Zettman
