[OTKA]Beerider Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Hello everybody! This is the game that i was expecting for many years. I played every flight sim so far and this have all that i want : good graphics and good mechanics and physics. Anyway in 10 years of sim flight i have the same problem : spot enemy planes in expert mode. I have track ir but this don t improve my ability to spot enemy planes. Any suggestions?
Uriah Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Fly with those who can. I have same problem. But even in real life the fighter pilot who went out on his own never returned.

I agree with Uria. But, I had the same problem at first, until I found it is also a question of your monitor resolution. It really changes playing with extra graphics. Anyway, there is a technique that will help you and based on studies on best pilots in ww2. You must keep your head as still as possible looking into a big area and keeping your eyes quiet. If something is moving you will notice it easily. It looks like those pilots were able to scan the sky by sections...slowly. when you start with this technique you will improve your sightings and you will see how difficult it is because you want to move your head constantly, instead of being watching calmy big areas. This is what I saw at least in a documentary, and helped me...even in close combat...if you keep the patience enough to wait a second more looking at areas around you. 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Usimg zoom is quite important for spotting planes at long range, otherwise you"ll only see a small lod uneasy to identify. BoS graphic engine is working fairly well in terms of spotting though. It sometimes possible to track whole dogfights at 5 km range or even more. If you're flying MP keep in mind the player number is too low currently given the large missions we have so dont expect to meet sby on regular basis even with proper spotting.
Livai Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Bos has not many planes and its a snow map That makes it easy to spot planes. The best way is to look some youtube videos who fly MP at Expert Mode http://www.youtube.com/user/Semashko27/videos to learn how he fly how he spot and more.
KG200_Volker Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Another important factor to spoting is trir setup. Spent as much as possible time to set your curves and limits to your device. Many virtual pilots set their trir so with just a small movement the go from 12 o'clock to 6 so they can see back easily. At first this seems logical (I dit it too) but later on as you get used to using the thing (your brain expects your eyes to look the same direction that your face is going so it takes some time to teach him) it's better to set curves that will make steady looking while fully zoomed in. Then you will be able to spot further away. The thing is the twitchy set up of trir leads to big movements while you are zoomed so you get tired dizy and unable to watch 3-4 pixels of enemy fighter when he's far from you. Smoothness of trir AND a very good setup of monitors brightens- contrast levels will help a lot. Don't be afraid to loose some FOV to your 6 to make trir smooth, if you fly MP as a fighter you won't stay too long straight and level and hopefully you ll fly with mates in echelon formation so extra eyes cover blindspots. So your goal is to be fully zoomed and have steady image without the need to flex your neck muscles. Hope that helps

JimTM Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Here's one from that "other sim" where spotting is more difficult. ;-) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZrBefp7cjM

JimTM Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 It does in CloD. I don't know if it's the same in BoS.
SharpeXB Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) It does in CloD. I don't know if it's the same in BoS.It's sad that people have to resort to that in CloD. The lack of antialiasing is the problem. As much as I liked about CoD this made the game just unplayable. Aircraft flicker and dissappear at certain ranges. I think TF might have fixed this problem but I don't know for sure. BOS doesn't need this solution, it's detail resolution is as good as RoF meaning to say it's the best there is afaik. CIA_Yankee_ Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 One thing that the campaign is good for is in training for contact spotting and navigation. Fly at expert and turn off icons, and just flying nice long missions. It'll teach you to navigate by sight and also you'll need to look for contacts the hard way. Plus, once you can do it well, you'll rack up plenty of XP for your unlocks.

Work on spotting them and it becomes easy.
