Noxos Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 (edited) IL2 BOS that is. I've held off for for the last few months because there is a very good chance that in 5-6 months time I will have absolutely zero time for video games and I didn't want to invest in something that I wasn't going to use. But... seeing it pop up on steam now and all over youtube... I'm just not sure I can handle it. So what kind of money would I be spending to get a good solid rig? Doesn't have to be absolutely amazingly good, just able to run the game at 1920x1080 with good 45+ consistent FPS. Recommendations for video cards etc. welcome, I haven't kept up with PC tech at all. Thanks. (I'd probably be playing Arma series as well but this is the one I really care about) Edited November 17, 2014 by Noxos
MarcoRossolini Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 2 years ago or so I spent 1,300 AUD to get an i5 and a gtx 570 that runs BoS swimmingly on high and manages okay on maximum settings. I would hope that computing has gone a little way since then. Generally sims require more CPU then graphics as a rule (or the good ones at least)
76SQN-FatherTed Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I've said this before in reply to a similar post - factor in some sort of headtracking to your costs if you really want to enjoy this game (also works in Arma)
Finkeren Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I honestly don't get, why people have trouble running this. I built my current rig from scratch over 3 years ago (total price the equivalent of 1200 USD, but consider hardware prices in Denmark) and I run BoS flawlessly on Ultra.
SYN_Mike77 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I had the rig below built by Cyberpower a year ago for $900 US. It flies BoS pretty well, on Ultra I start on the ground about 35 fps, jump to 45 on take off and hit 60 shortly thereafter. No stutters at any point ( knock on wood )
SAG Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Get an i5 4670K and an aftermarket cooler for it. Then overclock it a bit an youll get great performance. Also you can get an r9 280x from amd. I have this setup (except the overclocking that i will do later) with 8gb of ram and Get 40fps on the ground and 60 (locked) at any other situation. This is all on the highest settings the games have to offer plus the 4k LOD fix.
Gambit21 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I5 2500K and GeForce GTX 580 with 16GB of RAM will for sure run it flawlessly on ultra. Systems slightly below this spec will work too, but I don't know where the line is. This was my system before upgrading to a GTX 970 recently - not for BoS reasons.
J2_Trupobaw Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 (edited) The hardware in my signature costed me about 1250$ (?) 2 years ago. Throw in new screen price if you need to, I cannibalised my old PC.The sim equipment (stick, pedals, TrackIR, throttle quadrant) costed some 500$ more, but price of these varies even more than PC parts, depending on where you live. Sites like, http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyriand other benchmarking sites sometimes let you enter PC specs manually, so you can try various PC builds and see how PC titles would work on them. You can't check for BoS there yet, but see how your hypothetical PC would run IL-2: Cliffs of Dover or Skyrim; I've been using these two as benchmarks when putting my PC together. Wolfenstein:New Order and Rage are another two titles to check out, their requirements should outstrip BoS in everything except maybe CPU. If you have cash left, get better CPU, that's the extra that a sim will benefit most from. Edited November 18, 2014 by Trupobaw
