Some Facts About the Battle of Stalingrad

Regarding the air support (item 6); I'm currently reading The He 177 by Smith and Creek - the first operational use of the He 177 was as a transport aircraft supplying Stalingrad: the unit involved was Fernkampfgeschwader 50 or FKG 50, which was an independant unit set up in France in May 1942 to test the He 177A-1. In January 1943 the first seven He 177s were transferred from Brandenburg-Briest  to Saporoshje and fitted with a supply dropping modification called R????stzustand A. Trouble was the He 177s consumed four tons of fuel in return for 1,120 kg (2,470 lb) of food and other supplies and, of course, they were still suffering from lots of engine failures: after about a week of flying transport ops the 177s reverted to bombing and, by early February 1943 the unit had returned to Brandenburg-Briest. (S&C pp. 50-54.)

Wonder if the developers will have the He 177 in mind??

(Also re-reading Stalingrad by Antony Beevor, which is an excellent study of the battle.)
