Wanderer37 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I am having difficulty with my landings and so have been practicing with the "Take-off and landing, calm" mission. I don't like using external views and I'm not sure exactly what I am doing wrong, which is resulting in repeated landing gear damage. I suppose I can switch to external view to see what is going on, but I was wondering if there might be a flight recorder, which I can play after the fact. I have seen a couple references to flight recording, but have not been able to find out how to do it.
Sokol1 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Ctrl+R to record. When replay the track, press (H) to hid "player" interface, so you can access external view (F2).
Wanderer37 Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) Wow, thanks for such a quick responses! The video provides much details about the very richly implemented recording / play back feature and is highly recommended if you want to capitalize on the functionality, which is a must IMHO. Yes, simply pressing Crtl / R will toggle the recording feature, but the video also goes into associated topics such as manipulating the settings to reduce size of the recordings, how to load for replay, how to rename recordings and how to delete recordings. Not to mention how to fast forward, slow motion, repositioning within the recording and most importantly how to switch views. Edited November 15, 2014 by Wanderer37
-TBC-AeroAce Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 if u have an NVIDIA card u can use "shadow play" it works really well 1
avlSteve Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Sorry for OT. I'd been flying a night campaign mission for about a half hour, starting my approach at the base, I see the first flare and decide I should record this. I had the lights low, and couldn't see my keyboard very well. I was one key off on my keystroke, poof, off goes the canopy and I jump. Can't remember exactly what I said.
Wanderer37 Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 if u have an NVIDIA card u can use "shadow play" it works really well As it happens, I have dual NVIDIA graphics cards, but I can't imagine it could work as well as in-game recording. With in-game recording I can record from in-cockpit view and replay in external view. This is a big plus IMHO... I had the lights low, and couldn't see my keyboard very well. I was one key off on my keystroke, poof, off goes the canopy and I jump. Bummer. That's one of the reasons I got a backlit keyboard. I love it...
avlSteve Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Bummer. That's one of the reasons I got a backlit keyboard. I love it... Why didn't I think of that? Thanks, man, I'm on that tomorrow morning, first thing! 1
indiaciki Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 flight recording is Lctrl+R. screen recording is great with MSI Afterburner - configure key for recording - J - works

I love it... year u have identified the down side of shadow play. But shadowplays advantage is that u can deiced to record and save after something cool has happened. With the built in recorder u always will have to be recording

Falling out of the sky? Need any help with that?

With the built in recorder u always will have to be recording Interesting, so ShadowPlay is recording all the time and you can recall recent events without having to manually start the recording session - this is a nice feature that I will need to look into. Thanks for sharing.
Wanderer37 Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 What kind of issue are you experiencing? Bouncing? Groundlooping? Falling out of the sky? Need any help with that? Now, that I have figured out how to record and playback sessions I have learned that my flaps were not being fully deployed. I thought pressing "F" key would fully deploy them, but instead each key press deploys 1% of flap. I have since corrected and am now landing without damage - mostly. I'm still having trouble keeping the plane going straight down the airstrip on landing - she typically spins down the runway until my brakes stop her. I'm surprised the landing gear doesn't snap off. Anyway, this is progress and practice will make perfect...

Anyway, this is progress and practice will make perfect... It can be tricky to not spin after landing if you don't have a locking tailwheel. In that case, only hit the brakes when rudder is NOT applied, and in short bursts. That works most of the time for me. Also, you might want to apply a curve on your axes under controls, if your aircraft over-reacts with control surface movements. Edited November 16, 2014 by avlSteve
andyw248 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 What Steve said... also you want to apply only tiny amounts of rudder while the aircraft is dashing down the runway, and don't start braking right away, let the aircraft slow down by itself for a few seconds before starting to hit the brakes. Good luck anyway!
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Are there pilots who share their "tracks"? Could be interesting to learn e.g tactics

coconut Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Regarding the problem of spinning after touchdown, apply 15-20% throttle, it helps keep the nose ahead of the tail. I see it a little like applying throttle in a curve in a FWD car.
Wanderer37 Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Hey guys thanks for all the tips on preventing ground looping on landing. I will explore these and see what I can do...
