Amazing moment when the guys started sweating waiting for first readings...

... then confirmation !!!

Rejoice was universal... of sorts. Some people at office here were a bit... WTH are you so happy about !?.... I responded, they went - "oh ok, that." - and carried on with their Facebook browsing or something like that...*shrugs*

a video with a guy with a tatoo in the leg?

im waiting to see black and white blurred images

Yes. Same.

But no hype, the ambiance there must be quite hostile ???. We will see telemetry to image rendering most likely.

Heard about this at 5:00am PST. It still had three hours to go at that time. I hope they start showing footage.

Seems that it has well landed but it is not certain that it is well attached. Due to extremely low gravity one has to fix that thing on the surface.

But since we have good wishes from Captain Kirk I am very confident.

The problem is apparently the harpoons didn't fire but it's primary means of attachment was screws in its landing gear which did work, they are going to try to troubleshoot the harpoons and get them to fire I heard but it may be the case the landing gear screws will suffice anyway.

Very cool!

Stefan Ulmec in the press livestream said the data from Philae may indicate that it bounced off the surface, got pulled back by gravity and re-landed two hours after the first landing. Anyway they'll have another press briefing tomorrow 14:00 CET.

Oh and here are many pics from the orbiter.

Its a fantastic achievement for all concerned, although I'm sure it wont be long before the internet ignites with a plethora of "Conspiracy theories"  The usual "Shadows are all wrong" or"It was filmed in a Burbank studio" guff.

Hehe, yes. That is clearly just a black and white photo of some mashed potatoes:| If you look close you might see the fork!

Speaking of, did you see the Nvidia Maxwell video where they real time light a moon landing scene using voxel global illumination?

Ended up with basically the same lighting as in the pictures, using only one light source.

Turns out Armstrong in his spacesuit behind the camera acted as a deflector, which is why Buzz is lit in the photo.

the moon surface could have also reflected light. most conspiracy theorists are just people who can't get over the fact they're wrong and stupid.

Given the "alien environment and the large unknown for sure" I reckon this was as smooth a landing as we could hope for, even with the bounces and the anchorage problem.

I watched a short documentary about the company which made those harpoons. It took a lot of effort and experimentation to make them, a bit of a bummer that they now failed to work. But it didn't seem to cause too much trouble then.
