Hi All. Being a retiree and a lover of gaming [PC] I have reached the point where I'm finding problems more and more with the new generation of action first person shooters that are available for the PC users.

I did read somewhere that the PC format is slowly becoming the poor relation of the gaming world ? have a look on all the forums at the amount of people complaining of continuous crashes/freezes/bugs

and the games that refuse to play from the start. And i'm sure that my rig can handle most [ Gigabyte GTX 570, CPU intel chip 3.30 Ghz, 8 GB ram, latest driver 344.65, OS windows 7 ]

So i have decided to bite the bullet and buy an Xbox 360, will I be disappointed ?  also is there allowance for allocating different buttons for different in-game actions on the Xbox controller.

         Cheers.

PS. my grandsons are in for a hell of a shock !!!!

Hi !

Well i dunno where you read that, but PC is definilty not dying ! It is the exact contrary !

If you are comming from PC, you will be disapointed by the graphics, and the lower performances of the old XBOX 360.

It is still a good console with a fair ammount of good games on it..

But if you really want to switch to consoles, i would advise you to consider buying either a ONE or a PS4

Why you may say ?

Because most of the game will not be released anymore on the older generations, and will only be available to the new one,

Also, the graphics are way better, and somewhat closer to the graphics of a pc (The quality is still lower though).

But if i were you, i would just stay on my comfy PC :P you've got a good machine, and there is plenty of games worth playing on this platform (arma 3, Red Orchestra 2..)

You could still wait for the upcomming ''STEAM BOX'' who allows the players to play STEAM games on his tv..

A xbox 360 console is a good option. Have one with a kinect and it is great family fun.

Does not replace a PC by any extents, it is just different entertainment. 1. media centre, 2. family games, 3. internet streaming media box, 4. etc

Have fun.

No, the controller buttons can't be mapped. You might get to choose different stock layouts ie "southpaw" in some games but the buttons can't be customized. Why this is the case I have no idea because it makes the console impossible to use if you like to switch games.

I've never liked controllers for FPSs - mouse and KB much the better option IMO - so I'd consider that if they are your main interest.  Controllers are better suited for sports and fighting games, I think.

Yes and platform like games. For example The Lego Indiana Jones is absolutely great on the XBox with the little one. Couldn't ever play that on a PC.

Got both Skyrim and Deus Ex Human Rev. in a budget sale ( really cheap both ) and can't get to play them on the console. It lacks control above all else.

x-box is great for GTA V and sports. I used the controller for RoF a lot,. Shooters don't work. Sims won't ever.

I'd go XBox 1 or ps4. There are some really good holday bundles out this year.

Let's face it, most of our friends aren't as hardcore gamers/simmers as we are so I find myself playing PC games/sims with only a couple friends, while the majority of my friends play console games online. Friends move away, have kids, get married. As I get older now gaming is the only time I really get to "hang out" with my friends from college and high school now days. The newer systems are very good at this.
