Simicro Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) Hi all, I found a lot of materials (turorials, YouTube videos) on aircraft flying and engine management but did not succeed so far to find documentation on this. I don't even know the name so I call it "aiming system and reticle". Could someone direct me to some documentation to learn how it works please? Edited November 10, 2014 by Simicro
mort Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 It is for when your gunsite ceases to function. Like any iron sight you line up the bar within the circle. There actually was a video posted sometime in the last few months of someone getting their gunsite shot out and them using the iron sights to actually get a kill, though search seems to be failing me so perhaps it was not on this specific forum. As to the dials, I would guess they are for adjusting or zeroing, probably by an instrument specialist in the ground crew. Though later, not in the game, the FW190D had pilot adjustable one that was set based on the target's wingspan.
Simicro Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Hello mort, Thanks for you answer and explanations. Much appreciated. I get it. So it is a kind of aiming system back-up. To use it, I Imagine that the pilot has to lean a bit leftward to align his eyes with the iron sight. Edited November 11, 2014 by Simicro

Indeed. It also has the glow-in-the-dark coating on the tips of the two points, the part that looks like white paint in your picture, so it can be used at night as well.
Simicro Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Yes I notice the phosphorescent paint on the tip yesterday during a night flight. It has a kind of magic
