sturmkraehe Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I've already unlocked everything for the He111 and now want to do the same with the Pe2. I had no difficulty in doing level bombing in the He111 which despite some flaws in the auto level pilot is a piece of cake - Normal or Expert alike. I've done it rather quickly. Now with the Pe2 I think I have already flown 10+ missions on normal mode and only gathered about 130 points. I will need 200 missions to unlock everything if I proceed in this rythm. Not acceptable if you ask me. Thing is: I have enormous difficulties in aiming. 8 out of 10 times I don't hit anything - while my wingies dance around with 109s at cloud height. No help either. Then, changing cap is far too slow. This is critical when in bomb sight mode imho. And if I hit a truck or so (not necessarily equating mission accomplished) I get butchered by some ferocious 109s. Anyone with a good advice? I am about to give up on the Pe2.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Even though I dont do that much level bombing I cant really see why you can hit with the 111 and not the pe-2 as the sight system is basically the same. Maybe the volume of bombs on the pe-2 is a little less. What I would suggest Is to go to the quick mission builder and select unlimited ammo and practice for a couple of hours. Also the pe-2 was a dive bomber so maybe consider getting lower and dive bombing.
TG-55Panthercules Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I've been making pretty good progress today running Pe2 bombing missions on autopilot while on conference calls. I have gotten whacked by the 109s a couple of times, and had a CTD while trying to exit from my latest mission ( ) but otherwise the autopilot seems to hit enough targets to complete the task and I'm at least half-way or so through the unlocks just from today. I'm only a level 6 dark elf ninja warlock pilot, however, so your monsters 109s may be a higher level than the ones I'm facing

I think I like the Pe-2's site better for now, especially since I don't know enough about the site in the 111. Edited November 10, 2014 by avlSteve
7.GShAP/Silas Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) Why not use it as primarily intended, a dive bomber? Of course, that doesn't help you with your level bombing. Edited November 10, 2014 by Silas 1
vonPilsner Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Dive Bomb your way to victory!!! I've been putting off the 111 because my level bombing skills are terrible...

VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 The problem with not having the Auto mode in the Pe-2 is planning for the jump the wind causes when you switch from View to Manual. There never seems to be enough time to correct the heading prior to bomb release. I wish the View mode would reflect the wind speed/direction input like the Manual and Auto modes. This would make it much easier. 1

This would make it much easier. I go with the view as long as I can, then guide the manual to the target. I think I'm probably doing it wrong, but until I get trained, it works halfway decently. About 1 out of 5 missions I'll be so far off as to not even attempt a release, and then I usually circle back around and try again at a lower altitude (sometimes about 100 meters over their heads)
Y-29.Silky Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) I am having problems with level bombing in general, and the Pe-2 is rough to do it in, all because of the wind for me, it's so hard to stay on the target. Even if I'm trimming my aircraft, I'm still drifting away, I even have to pause the game to set and correct my bombsite. It forces me to go into dive bomb mode and must admit, the Pe-2 is very accurate. But of course that doesn't solve my problem of being a shitty level bomber.. Edited November 10, 2014 by Silky 1
sturmkraehe Posted November 10, 2014 Author Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) OK, I tried dive bombing and that works far better. I however really think that the Pe2 and VVS planes in general react too slowly on bank commands. This is the complete opposite to axis planes that react fast but don't stop their oscillations. My guess is that their feedback control for the autolevel pilot is the same for both VVS and Pe2 and had been tuned to VVS planes and consequently are ill suited for the nervous axis planes.
