chris455 Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) No, no, I don't mean like that..................... I mean the most recent mission I flew yesterday evening. Flew a full mission on expert. My first in Operation Winterstorm. BF-109G2s. Was ordered to intercept Soviet bombers to the southwest of my base at Gumrak. We two (single wingman and I) took off ("You have successfully took off") and headed to intercept altitude. It was as black out as a chimney sweeps bum. After flying through our 1st waypoint, we turned to the action point heading. As soon as we had reached it, the microphone grumbled something like, "Attack enemy bombers to the North" or some such. I peered sheepishly out my canopy for my wingman, who as usual, used his psychic powers to pinpoint the enemy and was already long gone. No sign of him, the enemy, nothing. I milled around a bit, looking for something, anything, barely able to see my own instrument panel. BUT WAIT! Tracers- red tracers! Over there! And a contrail! My wingman was really giving those commies what for- I had to get there and help him! Combat power! Turn, turn, turn! But when I got "there", there was nothing- no tracers, no contrails, no wingman. I circled aimlessly for a bit, then dejectedly decided to fly home by myself. All was going very uneventfully until I saw tracers again, this time from the ground- a Russian AA battery taking vengeance on my wingie for shooting down their comrades perhaps? I descended down to the deck, and could barely make out the sinister outline of an enemy AA battery. Payback time, b*****s ! I lined up on one and let fly with the full menu. An explosion! That'll fix their wagon I thought! Until................ "NAZARENE INCURS A PENALTY FOR FRIENDLY FIRE" Great. Recalculated a course back to base, feeling pretty s***** about myself. Saw the base and began my approach. I'm still not used to night landings, and my approach was too high and too slow. I stalled her right past the threshold, and we came down hard on the mains. Bounced up, way up, and down again. This time the spindly legs of my 109 couldn't take it, and we skidded to grief a few dozen yards past the threshold. Lost a wing and another chunk of my ego....... I just sat there, disgusted with myself, until.. "YOUR AIRCRAFT HAS SUFFERED CRITICAL DAMAGE. (What? Really?) PRESS ESCAPE TO END MISSION." ( the hopeful side of me wanted to see something like "You have successfully crash." Oh well.........) So ESCAPE I did, and awaited my mission results. I was frankly expecting to receive the Order of The Red Star after all the expensive German equipment I had destroyed. But no, my "blue-on- blue" cock-up with our own flak battery prevented me from getting any points. I did, however, recieve an unlock for "remove armored headrest"- cleary someone at headuqarters was eager to see me get my head blown off before I can do any more damge to my own side. Not a great day for the Luftwaffe, I'm afraid..................... Edited November 9, 2014 by chris455 3

Y-29.Silky Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) Not a great day for the Luftwaffe is right. My last mission I was in a Stuka bombing a supply depot.. Dropped the bomb nicely, and even ended up shooting down a Lagg. Then came the tedious long flight back to the exit point.. I start hallucinating out of pure boredom. Then right before I reach the exit point, all of a sudden I hear hit sounds, and I'm diving in a firery blaze of no glory.28 buildings destroyed1 small aircraft kill 0 XP No more campaign for me. Yakdriver Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 own fault... never act bored. always be alert.
=LD=Hethwill Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) How can you get bored in 5 or 15 minutes flight is beyond me ( boredom is 45 min English Channel crossing on a Jug in the old 1946, masochism was the mighty 8th full length missions or Aces of the Deep Scapa Flow mission... but i digress... ), but then I like to play a full mission in any sim. The missions in BoS are quite fast and simple, too simple actually. Too little traffic happening. Edited November 9, 2014 by =LD=Hethwill_Khan
Yakdriver Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 yup.No random encounters with a stuka, making you itch to try the Shtormo as a dogfighter... or some fiesler you can blast or a Po-2 that makes a night rais on your airfield and your life miserable...entire game still a bit empty, gotta be patient for more...
