CoD re-evaluated...

MSFS is to FS what CloD is to Air Combat FS. Smoke and mirrors - that is CloD.

Purely an opinion.

Anyway, FuriousMeow, I'm not saying BOS isn't good - couldn't possibly say such a nonsense, but rather that I am having a great time with CoD, and it has just began. Been using BOS since the early days, really like it a lot, look forward for improvements in the flight dynamics, and don't even care about what concerns  the big majority of the users, like having to play the Campaign for unlocks... Played it for a while, even found it great!

In a flight sim I search, in the very fist place, for a good sensation of flying for real. I expect plausible responses from plausible inputs ( feel even better when they come from unplausible inputs, like things we would possibly not try to do IRL... ), like to see attention to details. BOS has all of this even if it still requires more work from the dev team to overcome the quirks it still has, CoD is probably much more difficult to update in this area ( I really don't know, and don't even guess how TF are doing their remarkable work... ), but the fact is, I just discovered yet another great flight simulator, which again, happens to be a combat flight simulator - I'd rather have it Civil...

So, I'm happy, I like to shout is at the forums, and that's about all... I accept your critics, and will continue to evaluate the true potential ( for me ) in CoD, BOS, DCS and eventually RoF which I have installed but seldom start.

These posts are all from 2011. TF has changed ground handling since then in TF 4.0.

AH ! Thx Kling - makes sense!  I can't really find anything that wrong with ground handling in CoD, quite on the contrary...

Ground handling is acknowledged by TF as a WIP still.

The FM is good though. Speeds, climb rates, acceleration, roll rates, etc. are all very accurate. It's got its quirks as most CFS do. BOS has its share too. DCS probably the least. I enjoy playing all three but when I want large scale 100 player MP CloD is the only option currently for me. I have no problem overlooking some quirks for that kind of fun experience and it's only going to get better when TF 5.0 comes along.

So you've never been spun around by the "wind" while stationary on the ground?

Not yet, but I only started using CoD last friday ...

It's happened to me in real life, wheel bearings are amazing like that and there is a reason why arcraft park into wind, admittedly it is not likely to happen to a heavy warbird on grass but hardly the most catastrophic bug one can perceive, considering it doesn't happen if you have brake applied.

Spun 180 degrees by the a 6m/s wind. Does this happen in real life DD_bongodriver?

Did you actually read what I said?

But still, if your flight siming enjoyment relies on sitting stationary for however long then yes this must be heartbreaking.

i can only imagine what other deficiencies are present in that "sim" when they can't even get that part right

Sure, go ahead. It'll be just like MSFS' good flight modeling. Not very advanced maths, doesn't require multiple cores to run the advanced physics, but its good. Not good enough to model proper ground handeling because that is still tied into the FM but good. "Good."

Simmer down now. I never mentioned anything about MSFS nor would I ever. It's not my cup of tea for a lot of reasons.

And "good" doesn't preclude something from being great. I guess I'll have to choose my words more carefully around you.

I love how accurate ground handling in bos is.

Easy there. TF are a volunteer team with limited time. They had other more important areas to work on first than ground handling. Making amendments to the FM to get planes flying close to their historical RL counterparts was the main priority and they've done a great job with that. They've said they'll look at ground handling some more later. It's adequate at the moment and I can overlook the issues with it given the many other qualities CloD brings to the table.

CLOD is not briliant regarding ground handling - i think is probably behind BOS and DCS,  but in the air CLOD planes behave for me more realistic then other sims.  Planes dont fly on rails like in DCS other hand don't do crazy things like in BOS  ( cobra, flick rolls with negative G ) and don't woobly too much.

Controls reaction in CLOD at the air  is natural, planes got nice stall and spins.

I fly aerobatic IRL and i could say that Su26 in CLOD could do most aerobatics manuvers in similar way i make it IRL.

Also planes performance in CLOD between Spitfire, Hurricane and 109s  are very accurate done comparing to RL data.

This is indeed correct. This issue still remains! Its being looked at.

There are still issues with the ground handling but they are slowly being taken care of. FM (both in the air and on ground) are a never ending project.

Its not about "getting it right". Its about how to successfully edit the code so that it works, as changing one thing also affects other things...

To add to that, they have to do all their fixing and editing without even having access to the source code.

What ClOD could be like these days if we had a Team Deadalus-like situation going on is wet dream of mine.

+1

CLOD was sunk more than it deserved. If only the game would have been developed in a conventional way we could have now the IL2 successor we all hoped.

When I play CLOD I breath the same air of 1946, no doubt.

Totally random question, but is there any talk of including a 190 in the game? It doesn't fit the BoB time period but I've heard talk of them expanding the game a bit.

We will also get the Swordfish and a 109 F variant :>

There's a sneakpeak of the F cockpit in their last update video.

And with a Malta map we could really do with a cannon armed Spit as well. And and and, the wishlist is endless really  :P

Also they're gonna switch their distribution system to an updater program. So you download that and it will do all the annoying stuff for you. Looking forward to that as well.
