IIN8II Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Been working on this War Thunder film for a while so I decided to upload some test footage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuWH1M6QLKo 3
39bn_pavig Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Awesome! Rowan's Mig Alley was one of my favorite CFS of all time. Fantastic to see those engagements in modern GC. I loved the brutal "rocket with wings" quality of the early Mig.
Finkeren Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Looks great! If nothing else, WT is useful for making machinima.
IIN8II Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Thank you! Also *Peek*, I need moar sleep.
Chuck_Owl Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Love the MI:2 track. ZImmer's the man! Like I always say, your camera work is FANTASTIC. I wish I knew how you could come up with great dynamic/moving shots like those. Soon you'll even be able to make a MiG alley in DCS as well!
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I was reading about transition training into a MiG-15, and have been wanting to try a simulated one ever since.
Chuck_Owl Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Lemme tell ya, I've flown against human-flown F-86 and combat at these insane speeds is brutal to say the least. Transition to the MiG-15 will be very, very interesting. For some reason, formation flying seems much harder in the F-86 than in, say, the P-51. The aircraft seems either too twitchy or maybe the throttle delay just makes it harder to match speeds.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 With the Sabre, do you lose aileron authority before the wing stalls? Apparently one of the major issues in the -15 is - even with those big fences to control airflow - getting slow on approach means losing roll control. I have wondered it if was same with the -86 with similar wing shape. There was an accident near here in the 70s, where a Sabre pilot stuffed his airplane into an ice cream shop. He was departing runway 30 at Sacramento Exec, which isn't even 4,000 feet long. The plane is capable of taking off in the distance, but the pilot way over rotated and was not able to climb away. He went through a fence, across the street and into the ice cream parlor. It seems like these early jets were intolerant of errors.
Chuck_Owl Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Yes, just like the -15 does. The F-86 and MiG-15 swept-wing aerodynamical properties are pretty similar in that regard. Here's a very interesting article explaining why: http://www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/aerodynamics/wing-sweep/

I wonder why neither design used spoilerons. NG did that with the Black Widow, so it was hardly unknown. I wonder if it was a 'feel' issue.
