Now that we aren't getting the IL-4 (Finger painting part 3)

I imagine I wasn't the only one, who was a bit disappointed this week to learn from Jason, that the IL-4 will not be coming to BoS. As the main medium bomber of the VVS it would have been a great addition to the existing plane set and an awesome aircraft in and of itself.

 

Instead I went and made this little piece depicting IL-4s during a raid on an airfield on the central front in early summer 1943:

 

 

 

 

As usual everything is drawn entirely by hand (or rather fingertips) on my daughters busted up iPad. Please excuse any inaccuracies or lack of details and historical markings on the planes. I only had a short time to research the IL-4 (of which there exists preciously few good photos)

 

If the painting could serve as inspiration for the devs, one could always hope, that they'll change their minds about the IL-4.

Nice picture, reminds me of the sort of artwork that used to hang on the walls of the officers' messes back in the days when my father was a RAF officer.

 

But where did Jason say it would never be done? I must have missed that...

It was in the thread, where someone posted pics of the 3D model done for the 'Battle of Moscow' project.

 

Might just be my interpretation, but it seemed from Jasons comments, that they had a list of planes they wanted to do, and the IL-4 would not be among them.

Quite right - I am talking about late fifties through to late seventies, so Soviets were not exactly welcome!

I actually did consider that, but decided against it, since there was already enough smoke in that picture (I spent quite a bit of time making just the right amount of barely visible exhaust smoke from all planes, and now it's just plain invisible in the low res pic )a trail of smoke from one of the planes would be too visually distracting I'm afraid and break up the picture in an unappealing way (at least I think it would)

 

We're gonna have to do with the flak bursts - and imagining, that most of the chipped-off paint on the planes are actually from shrapnel from near misses by the AAA.

Well if Jason ssaid we where never to have IL 4, he said in my pow, they do not have any big plans for this game. If anything they are not smart.

All he could say was there are endless opurtunyties in this game, and we believe in it.

But he did not and that give me sort of a negative vibe from them

BoM had a lot of models done or WIP... among others that one.
a bunch of stuff can be used from that, just like the LaGG,,,

 

positive? negative? we know nothing, so we better assume nothing either way, up or down good or bad.

It was only said that we would not get THAT particular IL-4 model and no focus on future addons/roadmap until CTD and other bugs are sorted and ME, Dserver and skins are finished, except the news of AI JU-52, all efforts are to optimise/finish/polish what we have now. RU forums give hint of roadmap at end DEC when future budget is understood.

 

And by the way nice painting

As a (virtual) bomber pilot myself, I feel your pain. I'd like to see more bombers; it adds much needed variation to the gameplay. New fighters are interesting (they always are) but let us not forget that aviation is not always about getting air kills: the best missions I have ever flown were done in bombers and required a tremendous amount of coordination and teamwork.

 

I still remember all these smoking craters through the german airfields in France... Muwa ha ha ha ha!

It just hit me, that I forgot to put a landing light in the left wing of the planes    

 

Will have to make a few modifications....

Though I'm mostly a mud-mover myself (I can just never find time to learn all the details of the multi-crew aircraft) I'm always for more bombers, and so should the fighter pilots be, you need variation in targets just as much as variation in planes to fly.

I got to stand up for Jason. If he explicitly tells "IL-4 will not", until the whole thing open. Otherwise it's just a guess. I agree that the Pe-4 would be fine - but also Ju-88, Hs-124, Fw-189, Po-2, I-16, I-153, Su-2, MC-200, MC202, SM79 and many others... Let us give developers time, the game is only a month away. If all goes well,Im sure that IL-4 will in game. Later.
