Is there anybody out there?

Do you get the feeling that despite all the protests and gnashing of teeth that has followed the game for the last 3 weeks, the Russian mind set will not allow them to change anything...

They seem to me to be hell bent on making the fan base bend to their will, no matter what the cost in bad feeling and possible effect on sales.

I just can't shake that thought from my head... :(

As others have said, I'm mainly a spectator now, hoping things will get better.

I have not flown it since last patch. Each patch I start it up see the unlocks are still there and exit.

S!

I stopped playing. So just reading up here and occasionally testing stuff. But no SP or MP for me in BoS. Letting it mature a bit, maybe some nice surprises would come along.

This!

After set up my new PC and testing the campain with the FW190 I stopped playing BoS. Tried to fly it with the additional guns and it's almost impossible! You can't proper aim with this bird nor fly (always try to stall).

I gave it up, it's just ridiculous, implausible and undeserving....

Russia[n mind set] is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Yet your answer to this enigma is so unsophisticated.

However I do agree with topic starter, that there are less developers on forums these days.

Not sure how Russian mind set is related to this phenomena, so.

Hello taleks, we were all starting to worry that you had all gone off into a dacha in the woods to plan how to close the whole thing down with a minimum of trouble.

Pretty much what I am doing. Very rarely even fire it up any more.

Ah taleks, good to know a dev has checked in here :)

I'm also hoping that you chaps will blow my assumptions out of the water... that would be great!

My impressions from various forums is that an impasse has developed, a bit like Trooper117 suggests.

There's a sort of stunned/baffled silence I think.

On the one hand you have people like me still reading around it, wondering whether to buy it (depending on how SP campign goes in my case) and you have others wondering whether this is the devs being stubborn and intrinsically set in their ways, and waiting for signs of flexibility in X or Y or whatever feature.

As for the devs/publishers...well, they are probably monitoring the early sales figures in various regions, keeping an eye on reviews, and waiting to see what judgements trickle down from senior figures.

Probably a bit of a stand-off. Potential buyers waiting...devs and publishers waiting to see if further effort/modification is justified.

You'd hope for a bit of momentum with roadmaps, near and long-term plans etc...if only to re-fresh what was said earlier, or to announce a few changes....

Also, it's been an intense squawk, so probably a bit of rest is also needed...either way, they dont want to leave it too long.

Well, I'm one of those Russians without dacha :)

As for mentioned thing, there were a lot of discussions in environment more suitable for work.

It is not like devs have played three wise monkeys anyway. There were some posts here and there, a discussion in polls sub-forum, etc.

However, that is only a tip of the iceberg, underwater part is not visible on forums, but it exists in noisy development environment.

As for situation itself and how I see it, let me introduce some fiction story about a brand new combat airplane. When it takes off, small movements of control surfaces are not so important, but as it gains speed any inaccurate, although slight, movement may lead to crush. And of course it is quite crazy idea to replace tail assembly with something more shiny/functional/aerodynamical, when you're flying at some altitude already. Engineers, even if pilots are frustrated during flight, can't just drop themselves on aircraft and change that assembly, they need to land plane first and consider adjustments to original blueprint. That aircraft is flying at pretty high altitude and gained speed already, meanwhile fierce warfare demands some time constrained decisions. It is not so easy to change anything dramatically, plane is only approaching landing zone on its second take-off. But engineers look to blueprints, pilots flight reports, control systems data, etc. However, what decisions and in which directions... all results of brainstorms on aircraft flight performance are kept in office desk till its landing and getting aircraft to construction hangar for major estimations. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental, of course.

Same as all of above. Drop in now and then to see if unlocks have been removed for premium version yet. Or, if there is any news on a third party campaign.

Both have gotta happen one day.

Cool analogy, totally understood.

Unless of course your new combat airplane is heading for a jagged mountain peak. Then more drastic approach about changing direction might be advisable...

I haven't fired up Stalingrad for some weeks now, I feel no inclination to do so. Obtained the unlocks somewhat begrudgingly and realised that there was little else to do in BoS.

I drop in here from time to time to see what's coming and what's changed, although I suspect it will be a much longer wait than anticipated.

God H... that made me chuckle

''There is a mountain straight ahead comrade, should we move away?''

''Absolutely not... we will win, not one step back... UZZAH!''

I always check the forums, much interested in seeing where things go. But when I see the things like the canopy magically closing without any help from the pilot in 3rd person I become discouraged. These are not 'details', but necessities in 2014.

Is the mystery sometimes soaked in vodka?  I think there are more layers of complexity ;-)

Really??  A 3rd person animation of the canopy closing is a "necessity"?  That isn't even on my top 100 list of things that I think might be nice to have.

So was I. Whew!

Cosmetic features that do not add any functionality are, IMHO, very low on my list of priorities.

so you trade that animation for a FMB i take it?

Guys, we've had this conversation a thousand times. The facts are that this forum is the 'blueprint' for a successful game, whether or not you want that particular feature, someone else does, someone who spends money.

"Wanting" and "necessity" are 2 very different things.

They pretty much killed GA in Europe, too. Gas prices, landind fees etc - expelled them almost completely from Int. airports etc I'll be doing my PPL in Belgrade, Serbia or maybe in Germany, I'd like to do it in a taildragger - citabria, but I doubt there is a chance....They all have 172s.

Ah, I forgot!  One of the guys that does aerobatic training here uses a Decathlon (FUN!) and there are quite a few Citabrias around.  I went through Madera, CA a while back and saw a gorgeous Citabria that had just been restored.  I doubt they looked any better (or as good!) coming out of the factory.  When I was learning to fly gliders in Florida, we used a Citabria as our tow plane.  That thing was a blast.

I am surprised though by your comment about Europe.  From here, it looks like there are so many cool aircraft coming out of Europe like Flight Design and so many others, often powered by something from Rotax, it looks like Europe is a haven for GA.

I got passed by a CTLS the other day - I had just departed in a 172 to leave the pattern off the downwind leg, and it departed behind me as I was climbing out.  As I turned to the downwind leg, he was already at pattern altitude over the departure end of the runway, and by the time I was abeam the approach end he was passing me.  There is a lot to be said for an aircraft that is fairly fast, climbs well, is maintainable and doesn't burn a silly amount of gas per hour.

I am really curious to see what happens with their C4 - that looks like it will be an impressive little airplane, and it may cause Cessna to do something different with their 172 (similar pricing, very different performance) if it starts making a dent in the market.

And meanwhile the audience is leaving the stage.

I just hope a FMB will save the game for me one day. I love the MP, its great fun.

Campaign has only a few missions realy, bomb the bridge, intersept, attack airbase and destroy ground cannons.

Getting the feeling of playing the same missions over and over. Even the briefings is the same.

And i will not even mention the plesky unlocks..

On the Russian forum this was just compared to being similar to Doom by the producer. Did I understand this correctly? Always hopeful.

Sad really - it seems the only way they will be shifted from this obsession that unlocks are the motivation everyone needs to play the game will be if the game is a commercial failure. In which case so long IL-2. Success, on the other hand, will entrench this belief.

Either way, I feel hope ebbing away.

Obviously I do not know BoS's sales and usage numbers, but from the information we do have publically it looks like Taleks' new aeroplane analogy is lousy. This is much more like a weak patient, bleeding out on the operating table, in need of urgent surgical intervention.

One of our guys started playing the game this week.

Still digesting his input, some good, some not, but for me the big thing stopping me from buying in now is that I will not be able to host small private missions just for the BlitzPigs/Pilot's Pub crew on my machine like I could and often did in the original IL2 and all it's iterations.

We are a small group and in no way can afford to rent a dedicated server with big bandwidth, even if the game software was available for it.

Then there is that way too complex mission editor.

I digress...

I'll continue to watch from the sidelines and see how the sim progresses.

Right now that's where I am at.

Am obviously misunderstanding the meaning of this. Doom was a very successful and long running franchise ...

What have I missed (seriously, I'm confused)?

Doom was great !!!!!!!!!

Dooms' blasted success is now the reason we have unlocks here.... But in that case I was able to get my Plasma blasters phase switching cannons faster. Just saying.

Sure, Doom was very successful, but it is a completely different market and design philosophy.  It didn't claim to be a realistic presentation of how life was for a Space Marine as he progressed through his career.

In IL-2, I can't even think what the unlocks are meant to represent for our virtual but non-persistent pilots.

I'm happy to wait a couple of months for it to be 2015 and then they won't be necessities any more. Will I be relieved.

In 2015 not modeling such things will be even more sad.

The flight school in Belgrade only has cessnas...150, 172, 182 and 310... no taildraggers

DCS doesn't model this.  CoD doesn't even show the canopy opening in 3rd person.  I hope you're prepared for a lot of sadness ahead.
