One game I have found and really fallen in love with, is World of Tanks.  Its NOT a simulator, but I dont want to call it "arcade".  Its got an amazing DM and physics system that makes the tanks feel VERY real, and its just a LOT of fun!!!  

 

Anyone else also play WoT?  

 

Also, what other WWII games/sims eat your time?

Il2 COD is fairly good ;) and can be bought for a small cost when on special! You should give it a try!

I think we should all dive full force back into IL-2 for a year. Not Cliffs Of Dover but IL-2 1946 in Hyperlobby with the HSFX mod. Register with Warbirds Of Prey and fly Bomber Night Friday nights along with fun full real action every day. I think there are over fifteen missions on rotation now.

Fully agree. Well, we're trying to make the best of WoP using it creatively (which works well, but wish we'd have many more options), and as far as immersion goes it's still benchmark.

 

High hopes for the future IL-2 Series and BOS!

Silent Hunter, anyone? SH3 and SH4 are good - and better with mods. Even the SH5 disaster has apparently been turned around by the modders.

Must agree here. Silent Hunter III is a great sub sim especially with the mods.

I like DCS mustang and Clod . . . but DCS seems to run alot smoother and doesn't have the icky occasional CTD / freeze of CLod. I like how DCS got the feel of the flying a mustang (as best as they could in a game). The fact there's no other ww 2 content or a campaign doesn't bother me, I just like flying around and shooting down other P-51's . . .

Hey Luke. I saw you on the forums and was wondering if you were the same guy :) Yes, there is nothing else like Combat Mission for tactical company-size combat.

I am currently focusing on ROF. To get my skills as high as possible and get back to aviation roots. Then afte flying countles sorties with WW1 planes when I see the cockpit of a BF 109 it will be like WOOOOOOW this is science fiction. We didn't have ANY of this back in MY day :)

+1 on Combat Mission Battle for Normandy. Superb tactical battles and campaigns. Very immersive and atmospheric. Thousands of good free missions and mods.

Yes keep yourself occupied with something else until there is something real to see here at BOS HQ. Stop critiquing games and start playing.

 

I know LukeFF loves his Combat Mission. He'll play with you guys.

Battlefield 1942 has been released free-to-play by EA: http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-1942

 

Actually I think War Thunder captures the popular aspects of the original IL2 quite well; a cutting edge engine and a strong online dogfighting community. CloD went in the direction of clickable cockpits and more realism than most players really wanted. The unprecedented fidelity of the IL2 engine is what attracted people in the first place, not so much hardcore realism, whatever it did have didn't get in the way of the fun. War Thunder is similar and very accessible with a popular arcade mode but also has a challenging simulator mode. It also addresses the decline in joystick usage with powerful and innovative mouse controls. And the graphics; dynamic exposure, motion blur, the best volumetric clouds I've seen, haze, terrain, water, cockpits, animations, reflections and flaring all look amazing.

Some very wise words there, I just jumped out of my F-8 Crusader cockpit after an escort mission over Vietnam in SF2: Vietnam. I haven't played SF since the very first one came out all those years ago and I wasn't too fond of it back then but decided to buy one of the more recent iterations and it's a blast! Yeah I know it isn't DCS quality but it is FUN and I haven't had actual FUN playing any sim for quite a while now. Plus, I got myself a kill on that escort mission, I wasted both my Sidewinders (crappy early versions, GRRRR!!!) but my guns ripped the poor MiG-17 pilots wings right off. I know it's not a WWII sim but it's fun, accessible and juuuuuust realistic enough.

The new Combat Mission series Normandy / Italy - AMAZING game, well worth a look - modelling is spot on, and it has to be seen to be believed ( eg round tracking physics etc etc) I'll happily have a PBEM with anyone who fancies it!

I am really enjoying Panzer Corps (Africa) at the moment, a remake of the classic Panzer General series from the 90ties.

World War 2ish, but DCS P51 is pretty damn awesome.

 

I know its a study sim, but if you like flying your nuts not to have it imo.

 Iron Front 1944 with DLC D-Day coming up can be fun. MechWarrior Online, even not WW2, but fun as well. World Of Tanks is okay, just got bored with it. Combat Mission always kicks butt. RoF of course, want to thank that anonymous person who had gifted a plane, THANK YOU! A-10C Warthog for some serious mud moving. List goes on..I even re-activated my EVE Online account. So plenty to do while waiting for Battle For Stalingrad. IT will be good :)

If any of you are into RPG style games and have Skyrim, there's a new DLC called Dragonborn just been released for the X-Box. PC release is due in January.

 

Also, if you like strategy games, I'd highly recommend taking a look at Heart of Iron III (and it's expansions) or Victoria II (and its expansion) from Paradox.

for me at the mkoment it's all about ROF. I am curtly playing througth the traning missons i can take off 4/5 and manged to finaly do my first proper landing last night it's a good agme even just flying without any enamays around is a joy

48% - ROF any server :D   ROF amazed me OMG!!.... OMG!!!

29%  -CLOD  ATAG - The Great Setver !! A lot of fun !!

19%  -Il21946 ... I played  IL2 for 10 years, is my drug ...Now, HSFX 6.0.17 Expert mode on+ MOD GS, Online War in Ghostskies.

3%  - Planet Side 2, massive battles maybe ...500 players in the same map, Great Battles !!

1 %  - BF3..

Mustang, for Planetside 2 the player cap for each map isn't 500, it's 2,000!
