Y-29.Silky Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 My mission briefing in a nutshell. TARGET: SUPPLY DUMP LOCATION: NOVO-SERGIEVSKY I saw the actual supply dump from a distance, but of course, had no way to recognize that it was the supply dump, and my map clearly shows that it's on the right side of the airfield (the bigger patch of black that's easier to see), so I trusted it. Finding my mistake and knowing I wouldn't have time to adjust, it was He-111 dive bombing time (which ended miserably). There's NO possible way to distinguish the two, you'd think a supply depot would have some smoke coming from it, right? Now pretend you're an He-111 pilot, your target is the Red October Steel Factory in Stalingrad, in you're briefing, you'd probably see something like this... But currently in the game there's aboslutely nothing useful besides a giant target. This is what makes the He-111/Pe-2 campaigns so frustrating. I hope the devs are working on the campaign because this game won't grow with half-ass stuff like this. 1
vonPilsner Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I have been skipping all the supply depot missions because I am not sure which batch of buildings they are. 1
Y-29.Silky Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 I have been skipping all the supply depot missions because I am not sure which batch of buildings they are. They're always a little patch like this. They're my favorite as you earn an insane amount of XP compared to the other types.

1./ZG1_ElHadji Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 This brings me to my pet peeve: why aren't there any recon photos available in the mission briefings to begin with? Even the good old B-17 Mighty 8th had this back in the days.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 LOL, What about bombing artillery from 5500 meters? Now that's a bit much, those I skipped after trying a couple.
Yakdriver Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 OP what makes you think a supply depot should smoke? personally, i would want to hide my depots, and i would not allow anyone to smoke near my ammo dumps, fuel dumps, or similar. No smoke, no smoke at all. Camouflage netting, and clearing of the tracks that lead to and from it! concerning the factory, i would say sometimes yes, sometimes no pictures could be provided. For the bigger raids surely - but those had like 50+ Bombers [pet peeve] agree on the "half-ass" you put there...
CheeseGromit Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I have been skipping all the supply depot missions because I am not sure which batch of buildings they are. Same here, I didn't know what a supply dump looked like before the image in the OP. The one time the AI successfully completed the mission for me the game froze before I could find the smoke or craters to take a closer look.
Elbows Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I agree the vague-ness of the map is pretty frustrating. Also, I'd like to see something like a photo of the target prior to starting the mission. This is why I've done AI for the entire campaign. Can't be arsed with that kind of thing.

But surely these are meant to be "bigger" supply depots, rather than one you can conceal. And I disagree, I bet just about every bombing run, they had a recon photo, they knew exactly what they were bombing, otherwise, it'd be suicide. Even a few squads of Stukas, they didn't go out there just guessing.
unreasonable Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Makes me wonder whether it would not be better to have instead (or as well) a photo reconnaissance mission for these types of target. Single aircraft, no bomb load, take pictures?

Dakpilot Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Two things to remember, if you zoom in on the map before starting the mission the actual buildings (Depot) are easily identified You can easily see that the lighter grey small block on the lower part of the eastern section of the built up area is the target, just above the block angled at 45 degrees this is also fairly easy to spot when looking at the actual area in flight On the map the airfield icons are not accurately positioned or orientated correctly Hopefully at a later date actual airfields will be portrayed with the correct runway orientation on the pre-flight and in flight map. This is very necessary and that info would be on the map in reality Cheers Dakpilot
unreasonable Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 If only they had the Storch :/ Storch would be fun for over the lines, this kind of supply dump target needs Fw189 or even Ju88: all needed to make this sim live, IMHO, along with their Soviet equivalents. TBO I would rather have a plane pack that fleshed out the OOBs like this than a new theatre right now.
Yakdriver Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Lots of action to be had, leading Up to and after stalingrad.Lots of content possibilities [air, land, Volga] here, agreed.imagining arty spotting, or Katyusha spotting... O.ositting up top at 1000m, seeing hell rain down... and laafing your butt off as the enemy dies below, because the frozen landscape turns into a burning and exploding Hell.

If I'm honest I'm having a hard time fathoming the people who think a new theater is a good idea when we have a scant 10 planes to cover the current one. I'd much rather have spotting planes for both sides, transport planes for both sides, a small twin-engine fighter bomber for the Germans, and a more sizable twin-engine bomber for the Russians. I'd also prefer to see expansions for earlier/later Russian front campaigns or the Finnish campaign before other theaters. This allows the sharing of resources/planes and other models etc. I'll be pretty peeved if we get a random "Here's Africa!" DLC in a few months with no more attention paid to the current campaign/theater.
