Tompa_73 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 So...after started second chapter after flying only Stuka I wanted to give the Heinkel a try but a wierd thing happened on take-off. I fly on expert and long duration so at start with everything on I looked on my right and saw one of my wingmen(or whatever its called) going faster then me, passed me and even got up in the air before me. Now this is not the issue, the issue is the plane behind me that rammed me 3 times in a row on the runway before I gave up. I really dont wanna fly with short duration, what am I doing wrong here, load-up shouldnt be a problem, my wingmen shouldnt ram me anyhow you would think? Anyone else got this issue or what am I doing wrong, I hit the pedal as fast as mission start and yet they goes faster then me and then of course the one behind me rear-ends me on the runway before I even can get in the air.
FlatSpinMan Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I've been crashed into a LaGG a few times. I was farting around on the strip, working out what is what, and then I veered to one side slightly. End result - my wingman flew right up my...rear quarters...
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Yesterday while flying campaign mode in an IL-2 I had two AI wingman an the one on my right beat me off the runway and the one behind me was close to me also. But to be clear they did not roll till I did. Then both of mg wingman did a low left turn and crashed in the trees. It was like their planes had no power or were out of gas. Chief
Tompa_73 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Guess I have to fly short duration until this is sorted out or I get back to my beloved Stuka, BoS is too fun anyway.
1./ZG1_ElHadji Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 For the record: I have exactly the same problem in the Stuka... My wingmen have crashed into me on takeoff and during level flight. They have also crashed right after takeoff as they probably forgot to pull pack on the stick. For the past 5-6 sorties I have arrived alone at the target area (109 escorts usually decides to chase off after bombers at the horizon) because my wingmen simply fail to get there. Doesn't matter much since they never seem to attack any targets anyway when they do get there.
Mikey Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Well be thankfull it was at the beginning of the mission instead of the end lol...i havnt been rammed on takeoff but landing multiple times
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 the answer to this is start in the air. short missions.
Tompa_73 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Hmm there are strange things goin on, I tried campaign again with Stukas and they seem to go faster then me, never seen my right wingman taking off before me but he did and looking backwards I could see the other really close. Was there an update this weekend or friday? I dont remember...... There should be atleast a couple of seconds after you start that they start, Im imagining they set off as soon as you do now? I did an experient just turning of the engine when mission started and they just stand there.
StG2_zulu354 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Did you used flaps? May you try without setting them to get faster in shorter time.
Tompa_73 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 No? I figured since everything is all set up at the runway automatically that they were already set? See, this is why I wanna cold start from the taxi position so I know what Im doing and not doing. Point is also that I havent seen this behavoiur before...I\ve always been the first one up in the air, the others were no way near me, as far as I could tell.
HansHansen Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 i had this problem, too. try to take off as fast as possible after you begin to move (full trottle and rpm, with flaps in take off setting) and start climbing right after you took off. As far as i can tell there is a problem with the formation flying of the AI. If you take off with low power the AI will overtake you, then as soon as you both are in the air they go idle to come back to the formation. Then eventually they hit the ground
StG2_zulu354 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I have it sometimes my wingman on my 4 o'clock passes me during take off, but never had a crash from my 6... I just recognized twice an unfortune behavior with the Ju-87 while try to start with the SC1800 Satan - first attamp I go over lisa above a forest and my wingmen alll crashed in the trees, second attanp they overturn all their engines. But no probs never saw with my He-111... However, flaps aren't set in the campaign with runway start. But the H6 doesn't really need it...seems more or less to an AI bug, I would guess...
Elbows Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 This may sound silly, but I'd accelerate and turn - get off the runway...let them take off, then taxi back around and try yourself.
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 S! What worked for me: do not move the slightest at start of mission or AI will start moving as well = crash boom bang I adjusted trim, prop pitch, radiators etc. and then just took off at best possible speed. Was never rammed by AI wingmen on take off or landing. Only in the air (fighters, not bombers). 1
TG-55Panthercules Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Yep - I've consistently had this problem in my Stuka campaign missions if I try to fly them myself. When I'm just doing tests, I have to snap on the autopilot ASAP so my plane will take off before the guy behind me rams me on the runway.
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 It is an easy problem to solve. The trigger for wingman to take off is when you apply power/move your plane. So you need to check if your throttle lever is at idle before starting mission. Any movement and they will take off. Never had any issues here. Just be careful on your pre flight check.
Tompa_73 Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Hmm didnt think about the throttle, I will check this out later this evening....
bravo6 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) Just started flying the He111 on expert and had no big problems so far. Finished my first mission bombing an airfield and landing safely at home and got almost 250 points. Since i couldn´t align the target properly on my bombsight (my fault), i just got down on the deck and did some old fashioned low level bombing. AAA took down one of my wingmen, me and the other came through. When taking off throttle up max, set rpm at max, flaps 20% and steer straight with toe brakes and a bit of rudder. Lift up at ~180kph, raise the gear, slowly raise flaps and lower your rpm until reaching max 2200u/min. Set throttle to max 1.1ata and start climbing slowly on direction to the first waypoint. Have an eye on the water and oil temp and set radiators to mantain proper temps. Set next supercharger stage at 1300m. When reaching cruise altitude you maye lower rpm and throttle to save fuel and spare your engines. Takes a bit of practice but it is not that hard to get it right. Edited November 6, 2014 by bravo6
Lusekofte Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 If you have your throttles on when hitting the pause button the wingmen will start their takeoff , If you throttle gentle up the wingmen will not hit you. If the coding is the same as in other games , the AI is not restricted by a FM, but are programmed to do and perform, they might not have the same weight and power settings you have. Your first movement will start them, if you hit the brakes first, you will have a chance to take off without getting hit from behind
unreasonable Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 the answer to this is start in the air. short missions. Nooooooo......
