SLI Benefits?

Does SLI benefit BoS if you are using a single monitor? For example does it help at running resolutios greater than 1080x1920?

As I said in another thread BoS ran full tilt boogie with my GTX 580, (nevermind the GTX970 I have now) so I don't see how anything would be gained from SLI with

your card either. Unless that is you're pushing crazy resolutions on multiple monitors which isn't possible right now.

I'm considering upgrading from the 780 to a 980 (if I could just find one!) or perhaps 2x 980s if it would help up my current resolution from 1080x1920. New monitor would also be required of course. The 780ti can run BoS on Ultra no problem. I wonder what would be required to go above 1080p up to 1440p or 4K?

From the reviews I read (and I read many before pulling the trigger on the 970) 4k gaming is possible even with the 970, and these are very demanding

games. Much more so than BoS which isn't demanding at all by comparison. I would get a single 970 or 980, a new monitor, then go from there.

I have my 970 overclocked (just a few clicks in Afterburner) to run pretty much like a stock 980. Not bad for $360. :) Can't go wrong with the 980

either obviously, just a lot of money for fairly little gain.

SLI does do well at high resolutions. I had 2560x1600 until recently when I got rid of the terrible Korean knock off monitor that had all kinds of crazy issues that just made it a terrible piece of crap, and now I'm using a PG278Q from Asus. It is literally night and day what I went from and to. So smooth, and so clean, it just made me love playing RoF and BoS so much more - but I had to drop to 2560x1440. Not a big deal, but still - SLI does help there. I had slow downs and dips in FPS with single card 780Ti, and when SLI finally worked when nVidia released their new drivers - I saw a ridiculous boost in performance. It was crazy, and I could pump up all other settings as I wanted - I ran Ultra with 4x FSAA and 16x AF but near and over Stalingrad in heavy clouds settings was a killer. Anisotropic Filtering out to 16x plus high 8x AA through nVidia CP. Running ultra and heavy clouds/overcast over Stalingrad with heavy smoke and intercepting aircraft went from stuttery to smooth once SLI began working.

Yeah, its worth it if you are running high resolution and other high graphics settings such as anisotropic filtering and high levels of anti-aliasing.

Thanks for posting this - good info.

I'm going to look into that monitor this coming year I think.
