SOLIDKREATE Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I'm wondering if anyone knows what unit these are from? I really like the paint scheme. I am guessing RLM76 base/over-spray, RLM74/75 camo with RLM81 mottling and Rotte or Blau 7. Link only due to Swastika. http://www.wwiivehicles.com/germany/aircraft/fighters/focke-wulf-fw-190-fighter/fw-190a/focke-wulf-fw-190-a-4-fighter-01.png
von_Tom Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Unfortunately all of my books have it as an unidentified gruppe in Northern France. Hood
SOLIDKREATE Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 I agree with the statement in your book. There is no defense band which makes it next to impossible to ID. But it is from the second Staffel which can be black or red numerals and staffelen markings. Well none the less I am still going to make this skin for War Thunder even though I never play it. I just like creating.
MiloMorai Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Is 2./NAG 13 at Cuers-Pierrefeu. The aircraft have the small fairing protecting the reconnaissance camera opening in the lower fuselage and they have what I take to be red tactical numbers (5.(F)/123 used black). Also the additional camouflage under the engine is consistent with over water operations (you can see the same on torpedo Ju 88s) which was 2./NAG 13's main role. There are several other photos of these aircraft in books that show the surrounding landscape. If you go to Cuers on Google Streetview, the distant hills look similar although there is no landmark I've noticed that would make the identification certain. (Reply when asked for ID on another board) As http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/aufkl/b2nagr13.html does not list any Fw190A-4/U1s, the a/c in the photo should be Fw190A-3/U4s. Cuers-Pierrefeu is ~20km NE of Toulon. 1
SOLIDKREATE Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Excellent reply thank you so much. And confirmed even more with this photo of Stab./NAGr 13 (I believe due to the emblem). I have actually recreated this emblem here (top right): http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/866-emblem-restorations-skinning-projects/
