56RAF_phoenix56 Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I like much about this game, but there are too many supposedly Full Real servers that have a map setting that allows enemy planes to be seen when near friendlies. This makes ground attack with inferior planes like the lagg or il2 too risky. Everybody should be relying on the mk1 eyeball to locate hostile aircraft. Frankly I even don't like my own aircraft on the map, navigation is part of the challenge and a crucial factor in pilot load affecting SA. 56RAF_phoenix 4
Lusekofte Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Thank you, I did not know this...... It explains a lot
VRPilot Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 wrong, you don't see enemy aiplanes or friendlies. You just see them in vier range around friendly airfields, which is totally ok as we don't have a ground control telling you enemy planes are attacking your airfields. Having no information about enemies that are close to your airfields is way more unrealistic than those icons. If we get proper ground control like CloD than we get turn of the map icons. Everything else is just unrealistic. Don't try to make it more complicated than it was in real! 2
Yakdriver Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 everybody? so, me too?how can you tell me how i should play this game! That is offensive. please play the game as you see fit and do not impose your will on others. And fly on a different server then, instead of accusing those that run the servers of using settings you do not like.anyway, you will one day be able to run your own server and then this issue will be solved.
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 S! Turn off HUD, problem solved. You do not need the chat anyway as on TS for sure
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Don't be rude please, I said "too many", not "all". I've no problem with people running servers with the settings they want. In fact, I'm very grateful that they do since I cannot. If I'm wrong about the conditions when plane location gets reported, I'll happily stand corrected, politely... But you only have to look at the red/blue balance on many servers to see that ga in red planes is not popular, radar makes it less viable. That's ultimately less fun for everyone. 56RAF_phoenix everybody? so, me too? how can you tell me how i should play this game! Trinkof Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Having enemy plane on map when they are in range of AAA is ok and I would say realistic feature. Not having this would be unrealistic ... With proper radio com saying that this airfield or ground forces position is attacked by X aircraft at X height , would allow to remove the map indicator . The real problem is that you see also your own position on map ... And this feature should go away from expert server. 1

Having no HUD, i can live with the "map+my plane" option, where there are no symbols. if i do not like what the server offers, i say thanks to the host and move on. ======================================================================== i offer the option to not think, not criticize, not whine. BoS has been out the door for too little time, and there is too much work to yet be done in the MP/SP/FMB area before we can draw conclusions. it might say version 1.003, but in reality it's more like 0.879, and i treat the program and the players like that: things will change over months and years to come.
wellenbrecher Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 The real problem is that you see also your own position on map ... And this feature should go away from expert server. Temporary apparently. They haven't bothered telling the non-Russian community for some bloody reason - I guess they feel comfortable with the current level of good-will... oh wait... - but over there they said they're working on it.
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 The player GPS map position should go on expert servers. Enemy planes report from airfields and field observers is pretty realistic.
donkeycods Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I enjoy everything the way it currently is on expert settings. I like to be able to see my own location quickly because in reality I would be spending all my time studying charts and preparing for missions, whereas I do not have the ability to do that for a game. Thus, I would be much more able to quickly identify my own location by looking outside vs doing it in a game I spend an hour here and there playing.
t4trouble Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 everybody? so, me too? how can you tell me how i should play this game! That is offensive. Should take you're own advise ? 1
IIN8II Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I agree, nothing wrong with the enemies showing up near airfields as they would be reported by radio. I think the payer plane icon should be removed for the expert servers as well. Besides, isn't proper navigation part of being an "expert"?
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Ground objects should be removed too when they improve visibility. It is pretty hard to spot something on the ground even flying low in a Stuka. I remember when they made available the PERFECT option in old il2. 72 km of great visibility if I can recall exactly. It was a brand new game after that Edited October 31, 2014 by JG62Gielow
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) I have a suggestion for developers. To create AAA and Arty pieces that are used to enhance battle scenery. They should keep firing tracers on the same direction all the time to create visual immersion just like those huge smoke columns. They should not aim nothing, just keep firing. It would help a lot to find where the front is Edited October 31, 2014 by JG62Gielow
Y-29.Silky Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) S! Turn off HUD, problem solved. You do not need the chat anyway as on TS for sure But that's not the point because the majority of players don't do that, and your enemy will know exactly where you are if you're attacking. The unfair advantage they have is too great. A simple, "Enemies attacking blah-blah airfield!", should be enough, it was implemented very well in the Eagles Nest server. Right now, the enemy aircraft will show on the map with his every turn. This makes IL-2 and Stuka runs more suicidal than they are now, and makes jumping unsuspecting aircraft from high altitude impossible, as the airfield radius is quite large. Even in Simulator Battles in War Thunder, you're forced to navigate and profile if a plane is an enemy or not. It's embarrassing that this is implemented in IL-2. Edited October 31, 2014 by Silky
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 I do like the "airfield under attack" type of messages from the server. That's exactly what the control would report and doesn't give too much information. 56RAF_phoenix
