avlSteve Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 But it does have something. I was feeling good enough to tell my wife about a campaign mission I had flown last night. After having discovered yesterday that I could remove the aircraft map icon in expert mode by hitting the 'i' key and completely remove the HUD and in game messages under options, a new experience unfolded. Having to navigate by visual comparison of the map to the surroundings easily doubled the immersion. Couple that with having to visually determine my oil and water shutter settings and compass heading, add in the intriguing problem of ground forces identification, and let's not forget to check our six while we're at it... well, I have trouble expressing in words how engaging the experience was. Bottom line, as I was conveying the deadly flight to my wife, I noticed my heart was racing as I recalled it. That's extraordinary, for a video game. 5
avlSteve Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 I would love to have seen your wife's face as was feigning interest. She had her back to me; I couldn't tell. 1
Mikey Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Its always good to get the heart pumping..but when it comes from a videogame its awesome and really if you get that feeling the game is Immersive if it can give you adrenaline rush when i think about it afterwards make me wonder how hard your heart would be pumping irl - realize you had an enemy right behind you with finger on the trigger...
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I can almost see her eyes rolling...lol. 2
vonPilsner Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 @avlSteve Yeah, I find BoS very immersive and enjoyable, been having quite a bit of fun so far.
Gambit21 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I can almost see her eyes rolling...lol. LOL - yep
Elbows Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Any game where I can enjoy successful taking off...and successfully landing is a pretty good flight sim.
Beazil Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) I'm glad they left that "crutch" in on expert for those of us who have no sense of direction, but truth be told it doesn't really need to be there (on expert imho). Navigating that way is definitely an acquired skill. And likely the way they did things at the time (I'm not knowledgeable on the subject). Perhaps they could have been receiving information from the ground, but I'm babbling now. I just assume that was the case irl. edit: Thanks for the story. I've regaled my wife with many similar stories and she just tells me "that's nice dear. Now go play with your pretend airplanes with your imaginary friends".... Edited October 30, 2014 by Beazil 1
