looking at the campaign missions, remember to me the old VOW style for IL2. Do you remember guys, how many battles in VOW?

The question to the developers is: would be possible in the future generate these missions and save them in a Multiplayer mission folder (as we have now in RoF) and host them? if yes, the old IL2 games is almost here also in BoS.

Check this thread out at RoF, It has been suggested that it will be used for BoS, Check post #7

Although much more in depth than your suggestion it does give an idea of what could be generated as Dynamic multiplayer missions

We know about it, but i'm talking about somentihing different. I would prefer a step by step approach in multy wihout forcing too much.

A lot of people would like to host his own games to play with squadron mates ecc. ecc., or have the old style IL2 mission where you can play a fast mission to have fun. Later you can do the next step, competition with the other squadrons ecc. ecc. as it was in IL2. Bellum War was a good example.

The dynamic approach is what i prefer myself too but is probably asking too much for the developers.

I'm talking about something different. Community does create itself the dynamic missions and events, but considering how is working NOW the campaign mission generator (very well coded for my opinion) i would like have from BoS as default feature:

- a mission generator (the same we have NOW in Campaign) as tool to create a fast mission (bombing, jabo, intercept ecc. ecc as it was in VOW for IL2);

- a feature to host hour own games as it was in IL2 first and RoF (coop or dog).

People say that this is not IL2.......but considering how it works the campaign, the old style IL2 games are really almost here in BoS.

Such as mission files in BoS uses text syntax and such as those syntax have been documented in the ROF Mission Editor User Manual it is possible to create a mission generator.

But it's gonna be a long process to create such generator from scratch.

Veltro +1 agree on all points

i remember veltro, VOW and VOW2...

Whit FMB and Dserver .... we miss some transport planes .... but have a needed tools for made a new VOW. This point connect whit another interesting point of BoS.

I think BoS need powered community players tools for meet pilots online...  or simply need a new room on Hyperlobby.

I know me and my buddies would have so much fun just playing the current campaign in multiplayer. We played absolutely stupid hours of DCG and if you look carefully it wasn't that complex of a system either. With further development the current campaign in BoS can eventually surpass it, but I would really like to get to fly the campaign in multiplayer sooner rather than later.

Many things are possible with time and money. When the FMB is out people can do all sorts of things if they are talented enough.

I flew on the Operational Test server last night and it was setup as a kind of coop server with AI planes where you could join either side of the battle.  I shot down 2 bombers and an escort fighter.  Only one other player was on but the future looks promising!

I will imagine that this means that we are about to fly the campaign with friends soon. I'm certainly not talented enough to start up a mission builder let alone do anything with it, so that's my only realistic hope.

Just as a side note it has puzzled me for a while why all the simulators after the original Il-2 series have dug such moats between the single player and multiplayer modes, I mean even DCG has some pretty interesting campaigns - but no way to fly them with friends. In the original Il-2 the biggest difference between multi and single was that you couldn't time accelerate in multi, but you could pick any plane to fly in each mission (DCG) so I would always fly multi mode and if friends joined teamspeak I'd just invite them to play. Falcon 4 did the same thing of course.

In RoF we would fly the career mode with friends online, but instead of flying as wingmates we were in our separate universes, only connected by voice comms and our respective scores on the leaderboards. That was quite a bit fun, though.

Pilot1 "Hm I'm on my way back and just noticed a balloon on the front lines."

Pilot2 "Ooh a balloon! it's irresistible, imagine the points you could score (1)!"

Pilot1 "Hah no way I've done my mission I'll just head home and take the landing points (many)."

Pilot2 "I heard the guys in the basket say bad things about your mom."

Pilot1 "I think she can take care of herself without me interfering."

Pilot2 "I counted three planes and two trucks (well I'm planning to do that, just took off), I will get ahead of you on the scoreboard."

Pilot1 "Well... They might not have AAA after all..."

Pilot2 "Yeah go for it you can do it!"

Pilot1 "AAAARGHH I'M HIT MY WINGS ARE FLAPPING I WILL LOSE ALL MY BONUS SCORE!"

Pilot2 "DIE DIE DIE DIE AND HAVE YOUR CORPSE TAKEN PRISONER!"

I'm probably missing something but I've kind of considered single player as a special case where the number of users = 1. If you create the code for replicating events over a network you might just use that mode for the special case (n=1) as well. You might need some gameplay design as well, but probably not very much. One consideration is spawning enemy planes in games like BoS; would there be too many if a number of players all did their own stuff around the map? Maybe just limit the player positions to the host's flight?

Well anyway, I'm really hoping to fly the campaign with buddies one day.

AndyHill,

As an FYI:   Career missions in RoF could be flown as a coop mission with just a bit of editing. We did this with our small squad.  Basically the mission you've last flown is "cached", and you can retrieve and edit it to your heart's content in the RoF mission editor... but you must do this immediately after flying a mission you enjoyed, since the very next mission flown would over-write the previous mission in the cache.

Some career mission may be too "slow" or uneventful for a good coop, but many were just perfect.   It does require that someone in your squad spends a little time learning the RoF editor (online youtube tutorials are available and quite good).

My hope is that this will also be possible with BoS.  The RoF editor is quite powerful, and I expect the BoS editor will be as well.  There is a greater learning curve than with other mission editors, but it is worth the effort.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the tip, that will be a good way to have a lot of multiplayer missions. However, I would also like to have all the goodies like career progress for all participants and stuff like that, so it's not quite the same thing as flying the campaign with friends.

Ahhh, ok, now I've got it, I misunderstood what you were looking for; that would be a great feature.

Best wishes.

You don't get the point Jason.

You're already have coded a strong mission generator. We are not talking about the online campaign but about the possibility to save the mission generated in the single player campaign, in a multiplayer folder to host it ourself:

- generate mission

- host mission

Thank you for your answer and time.

Well I'm also talking about online campaigns.
