On a number of Servers there are beautiful Ground attack based missions, like on the SYN server. But they suffer from people looking only for the thrill of

the Dogfights at 4+km alt, ignoring the Bombers and Ground attackers (not) winning the missions down below.

 

What I'm thinking off to get them back into the business of cooperating with Bombers and Ground attack is to no longer reward pure aircraft Destruction, but preventing Destructive Potential. I know there are flaws in the idea, but I still think it is worthy of considering a thought.

 

Core points of the idea include that i.e. intercepting a fully laden Bomber will earn you twice or points than one that already has done the damage. Shooting down a fighter that's close to your bombers or ground targets will earn you more than destroying it tumbling about idly, waiting in some remote part of the map.

 

Protecting and destroying carriers of Potential Damage to be done to your Ground Targets should be the very first Task of all the Fighters. Destroying Ground Attackers in the Target Zones should result in furtherly increased rewards (a system to prevent players just following others into the zones should be devised, maybe by proximity)

 

Attacks on the ground should be Highlighted on the updated Mission Map while Detection could happen by proximity of both a) Aircraft; b) Bomb Drop Zones (basically where the bombs of level Bombers hit) to the specific target zones as well as a maximum detction altitude for Level Bombers, giving them the edge in Surprise.

 

Do you think my Idea is any good? Comment if you have better ideas. It works of course only in a semi-dynamic Campaign like in RoF. This could also work if Unlocks were available in MP too.

Sorry, i don't think this is a good idea. The problem right now is definitely not, that bombers and ground attackers don't get attacked. Apparently it's quite the opposite, most people throw themselves on every ground attacker/bomber they see, regardless if there are other fighters around, who could harm them. I know that, because i cover bombers very often, but it's very very hard to do successfully, because most of the fighter pilots don't break, even if i shoot their engine to pieces. 

 

The problem is, that not enough people are flying bombers/ground attackers. This has a two main reasons:

1. Endless number of fighter aircraft available in game. In real life the fighters were only a small part of an airfleet, around 15-30% mostly.

2. No points/rewards for killing anything right now. If a (permanent) point system would be implemented, which rewards destroying ground units way way more (~5x) then destroying aircraft, AND if those points will lead to a win from one side (and no stupid timelimit), i think a lot more people would hop into ground attack duties. 

 

But remember, servers are still under development and testing, the server moderators (Syn, LD) are not stupid, and i think they will find themselves good solutions for this problem, once everything on the Dservers is working (points, ground stuff etc.)

I think it's a great idea. Sadly, even if the devs take it on board, it probably won't ever be implemented completely, because some parts would just be too difficult to program.

War Thunder has those "Ground Forces/Bomber/Fighter Rescuer" acheivements. I don't think it should be too hard to implement something like this into the MP servers.

Yes, This would only work once missions on MP servers worked properly and missions could be won mostly by Air to Ground work. I mostly think of incentivizing Escort and Intercepting instead of deliberatley Dogfighting. I think I even wrote about it.

 

Comment if you have better ideas. It works of course only in a semi-dynamic Campaign like in RoF. This could also work if Unlocks were available in MP too.
