PKH Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I'm about halfway through the campaign, and here's some thoughts on it. The missions feel artificial to me for a couple of reasons: 1) The amount of planes in missions varies too much. For intercepts, I can get 4 vs 1 or 1 vs 8 and it doesn't feel believable. 2) Not enough variation in other allied and hostile flights. Having several other flights on their own missions on both sides would help with immersion I think. I'd like a 'free hunt' mission as well where the objective was to destroy x amount of planes around the map, and not just intercept one specific flight. Also, the time-skip from IL-2:1946 would be nice to have. Even short missions are 50% dead time flying with time acceleration and autopilot.

There are loads of encounters with friendly and enemy flights doing their own thing. Often the biggest air battles don't even involve you or your mission (though you can always choose to get involved ) Several missions I've returned home from a relatively uneventful mission only to find my home base under attack by high flying Heinkels. The biggest battle I've seen involved some 20+ aircraft and happened when my flight of 3 LaGGs escorting 6 Pe-2s crossed flight paths with 4 Ju 87s escorted by 4 Bf 109s just as they came under attack from a group of Yaks. That was some serious mayhem Edited October 27, 2014 by Finkeren 1
PKH Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 In my experience, there are usually one other group of aircraft fighting somewhere along the return route from the objective, and that is it. This is not varied enough in my opinion. I'd like to see a lot more flights flying around doing their missions, and not having them programmed to run into a predetermined opponent like it seems to work now.
heinkill Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Since the last update, I think this has improved - though with random mission generation it is hard to be sure, it seems so to me H
Finkeren Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Just the last 3 missions I played tonight (all escort missions) had 4 different types of encounters: Fully escorted group of enenmy bombers crossed us right above the target (first time I have failed a mission due to too many bombers being shot down), flight of enemy fighters attacking us from above near the exit point, a group of Ju 87s in battle with LaGGs on the return leg plus Pe-2s bombing our base on landing. I think the missions are fairly varied (within the limits of the overall design of the campaign) though I have to admit, that I'm longing to see the next new aircraft added, the same 10 (2 of which you never see in campaign outside your own flight)is getting a bit repettitive.
StG2_zulu354 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 What is the difference between Ground Attack and Ground Support. Only different I recently recognized were own ground units in the battlezone during Support, while by Attacjing I mostly fly to enemy units far away from my own, such as trains or convoys.
