Ace - difficulty settings?

I really enjoyed this weekend playing the German campaign. A certain point, however, is somehow irritating. The expert mode still allows the pilot to see heading indicators, the command input as well as map icons. I would strongly suggest to make the expert mode really "expert" (or insert another mode called "ace", whatever).

 

The good old full real campaigns and onlinewars in IL-2 were just thrilling over the last 10+ years. A good pilot is not only one that brings enemy planes downs, but one who is capable of doing multiple tasks simultaneously. This for instance includes navigation. Navigation on the way to the target, navigation in dogfight, and navigation under difficult weather conditions. I think, the option of map icons (ground units and air units) and heading indicators as well as visual hints about the planes condition (warning of exceeding a certain engine limit) is just something, let's call it "not appropriate" for the expert mode. Being able to handle these additional factors in flight, in dogfight, maybe as a squadron leader, makes someone an expert in my opinion. As for me, this is it some extend also valid for real life aviation. I'm not a professional, just flying for pleasure, but the better someone is in navigation, engine management etc. the more attention one can pay to flying the plane or ATC if its a busy day again.

 

I know that you can disable these indicators by hiding the interface, but a certain difficult mode which completely disables all visual aids, is, at least in my opinion, missing and vitally needed.

I understand what your saying, but just now playing in expert mode you can disable everything, map icons, radar, technochat, hud, messages etc... 

 

Playing the game with no helpers on is actually quite a challenge, to go and find the correct target destroy it and make it safely back to base is pretty tough when you have no icons or helpers.

 

I agree custom settings would be better but really the only thing you can't have in expert mode is external views, everything else is customizable.

No GPS... kneeboard map...

 

Don't get me wrong, I love the aids in SP to get through the monotonous grind as fast as possible, but in MP it'd be nice to have it legitimate.
