Favorite Plane?

I really, really, like the 109 F4. I played the G2 when I first bought the game and thought it was pretty beastly, but the F4 just feels more nimble.

 

I like the FW 190 as my third choice. Haven't tried the Soviet planes yet. I am very new the flight sims. Like, 3 weeks new lol.

Fw 190 and La-5 are my favorite planes right now. But i also like the other fighters.

 

Pe-2 is my favorite non-fighter type. I'm not very good at flying (and especially landing) it, but somehow still like it a lot. Maybe because of the cockpit. Or maybe because it's so versatile and can be used as level bomber, dive bomber, ground-attack plane and to some degree, even as a heavy fighter.

 

All planes are nice in their own way.

Thus far, my buddy and I seem to stick to bombers and dive bombers in MP.  I have no interest in flying a German fighter since they seem superior (where is the fun in that?), yet I'm not good enough at dog fighting to score any kills in a Russian fighter.

 

Thus we end up flying for 30-40 minutes and being shot down mere yards from our targets.  Also with laden bombers and all of the controls there is far more to do in a bomber/dive bomber than a fighter.  It's not surprising though that absolutely no one will fly bomber escort (that's boring if we never get attacked - I understand).  So it's basically suicide about 90% of the time.

 

The only real downside is that most of the MP maps are rather small...so you rarely have time to get proper altitude unless you do huge loops etc.  I'd like to see slightly more distant airfields stocked with only bombers to give bomber crews a place to take off and get sorted out before flying into the combat area.

FW190 Jabo for sure. Intercept, escort, ground attack, bombs, cannons, everything but rockets.....

It's stable, fast in a dive, rolls like it should and easy to fly. The only down side is you have to keep your energy up but that's accurate and a small price to pay for so much fun. I am half way through the campaign flying just the FW Jagdbomber and then when I finish I will move to something else and start over.....

No one can deny Stuka is the most fun plane ingame. Must be difficult to not like it even for usual not-Stuka-lover

 

Second one is propably Lagg-3. The more people shout about the more fun it is to shoot 109s and 190s with it.

 

Generally i preferr Luftwaffe aircraft though

Not sure how the LaGG-3 is like a Hurricane?

 

The Hurricane is a very big fighter, the LaGG is quite small.

 

The Hurricane rolls rather slowly, the LaGG has an awesome roll rate.

 

The Hurricane (in most variants) is armed with a large number of small caliber LMGs placed in the wings, the LaGG is armed with a small number of large caliber guns in the nose.

 

The Hurricane was known to be very stable and docile in flight, not so much for the LaGG.

 

When the war began the Hurricane was an old design and was nearing the end of its development potential. The LaGG was a brand new design and only at the start of its development.

 

In fact, I can only really think of 2 areas, where there's any similarity between the two:

 

Both were considered inferior to other top-line fighters and stood in the shadow of their sleeker, faster cousins.

 

Both were of mixed construction.

No - he's absolutely right! The LaGG is the VVS Hurricane!

I have long felt the same way (long = since I started the campaigns). There's just something endearingly hopeless about it, and that is surely the textbook definition of a Hurricane.

Plus the y DO have their own unique charm. The Hurri IS a good-looking bird in some ways, but also kind of gawky. I find the LaGG to be similar somehow.

I always simultaneously loved and hated flying the Hurri in the old IL2, and feel similar in the LaGG. It'S a lovely plane but it is just damned hard work to win in it.

 

The LaGG at least gives you a bit more a chance of evading, I feel.

I know all the tech differences Finkeren, but damn if they don't have the same feeling. Plus I find the Lagg quite docile, love its rudder authority and slide ins and outs. As the Hurri I will gently roll into a deflection quite early as I cannot spare a second to recover my speed after taking that half second burst. I might not be as rough in the Lagg as in the Hurri, that is a given life saver in BoB but the defensive stance remains, good inside circle and make them overshoot...

 

Plus there is something nefariously great in blasting the 111's with the Lagg... as it is with the Hurri

 

Give me a lend lease P-40, any series model and i'll be even more happy.

The LaGG, i call it a Mule or a Donkey and agree with your points.

But both the 23 and 37mm have a good "kick" to them.

And i like that plane for these reasons.

 

I fly the IL-2 a lot these days. Can attack a bit of everything - all ground Targets and enemy Bombers too.

nah she is a handsfull, got a dragon-like beauty to her.
planes like Yaks and  friedriches are like ballerinas, pretty nimble.
The IL-2 is beautiful like the A-10. its not only the aestetics that come into play, but also the way to use that thing that make her beautiful.

Honestly.. Considering that when I fly online, axis side most often has almost twice the amount of players in comparison to allies, I am a bit surprised bt the answers in this thread.... Most people see to enjoy the Lagg.....????

That was the idea, but I got sidetracked with the two Romanian skins for the G2.   I got the founder skin and the 23mm gun was part of the "training", so the only thing I may need for the lag is the bomb.
