Saitek X-52 Users: Any Joy With Wheel Axes and Sliders?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Running into a few small issues setting up my controls. Traditionally, I like to put rudder trim on the top wheel on the throttle. The game only seem to recognize the one direction of that axis; so I can trim to the left say, put can't trim back.

As for the thumb slider on the throttle, the same issue appears when I want to configure that for prop pitch.

Finally, the game doesn't recognise the dual detentes on the trigger, which I like to assign to machine guns and cannons saperately - first detente is for the mgs to creep up to the target, then pull all the way back to let loose a few cannon rounds once the mg start to show hits.

The last point is not a big deal as I resolved it by assigning key strokes to the weapons and programming each detente to output those keys.

But if anyone has any joy with the first two, that would be great. CloD and RoF both recognize the wheel axes and detentes. Not for rudder trim of course, but I used them for radiator and mixture control

About the dual trigger, press trigger first and click assign button, then release your trigger. It worked for me.

Nice. Good idea!

Concerning the dual trigger, I did the same thing as SeriousFox and haven't had any issues.

I originally had the prop pitch set to the slider on the throttle and it worked without any issues as well, but I found it kind of jumpy.  I'm now using the top wheel on the throttle for the prop pitch and that is also working fine.  I occasionally run into the following issue whenever assigning keys: I get a split-second to assign the key to a joystick button and if I do not do it quick enough, the game inputs "null" for the other value (increase or decrease).  To get around this, I go into the settings screen, alt+tab back to the desktop, then come back to the game.  After doing the previous steps, the game correctly waits for me to do my inputs.  I hope that helps.

1st - The only plane that allow set trim in axis (rotaries, sliders, levers...) is Bf 109 for the function "Stabilizer Adjust".

For all others planes - include Fw 90 - work only in keys/buttons.  So to use the Saitek rotaries is need use Saitek software (or JoyToKey) and set these axis to send keypress.

Prop Pitch for BF 109 and Fw 190 don't work in axis (rotaries, sliders, levers...) only in keys/buttons and each plane use different command names (since in this RL planes the command is done be electrical switch's on throttle handle).

Tip - set the same keys for "Pitch Trim Up" and "Pitch Trim Down" and for "Stabilizer Adjust Up" and "Stabilizer Adjust Down" (Fw 190) so you dont have to bother in what key "trim" each plane.

And use the same keys/buttons for Prop Pitch for BF 109 and Fw 190.

You could use the profiling software and create "bands" on the rotariy axis that emulate the key presses the more you turn the knob, this is something I will eventually be trying to see how it works.

Kreiger, let me know how things go as I have the same flight stick as you. I'm trying to figure of if its me or the game that causes my 109 to bounce and overreact to any of input from me.

Thanks, Jaeger

Jaeger,

The 109 handles just fine with my stick. One thing I like to do with all my games is adjust the response curve in the game settings. Notably, an "S" curve is handy in the rudder response on all types. On the 190, I've been experimenting with an "S" curve in the elevator response as well. This has alleviated the stall characteristics of the 190 in tight, low speed turns (below 300 kph).

Thanks, I better start from square one. I cant even keep the nose steady to shoot down an AI stuka.
