Heliopause Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) On the site of museum Deelen (in Dutch): http://www.museumvlbdeelen.nl/me-262-opgegraven/ (at the bottom of the site: click for more pics) A rough translation for you guys (the int. community that we are): Near the airfield of Deelen (Arnhem) an Me 262 has been found. A team was digging in former bomb craters and in one of them they stumbled on airplane parts that turned out to be from a 262. Recognisable was the nose with it's four openings for the cannon. Digging was done by hand and at the end of the day a big part still couldn't be taken out: wing(part) and landinggear. The team decided to continue another day, a good dicision as more was found: engine parts and the heavy wingspar. A possibility is that this machine came down near Elden and was then used to fill this bombcrater. In the future more info will be revealed.... Edited October 25, 2014 by Heliopause 1
SOLIDKREATE Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Amazing! Just think of all of the planes lost in combat. We have maybe only found 5% of them. I wish I had the millions to go warbird hunting.

Finkeren Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 5% would still be tens of thousands. I think we're talking less than 1%. Then ofc a lot (most?) of the aircraft lost were cleared away and scrapped/used for spare parts. Others were almost completely destroyed with very little left to be found. But yeah, there must be thousands upon thousands of decaying wrecks out there waiting to be unearthed.
