Operation Grind... Stalingrad campaign ends.

Operation Grind has ground to a halt... according to information being received from the Stalingrad front late this evening.

The latest casualty figures show that 30 aircraft were brought down, with at least 51 enemy vehicles destroyed.

Our brave pilots flew successive missions over 5 different phases of the campaign and received 23 medals for valour.

However, despite the determined and brave actions that our pilots have undertaken, there have been rumours of unrest within our gallant air arm.

Lack of much needed equipment, insufficient weapon systems and bombs, and even supplies of paint, needed to give our aircraft the correct camouflage to fight the enemy, have been painfully slow to arrive in this theatre.

Several pilots who have complained to the ministry for air about these shortcomings have been arrested and have been banned to other theatres of operation.

This apparent draconian measure taken by the ministry has angered many members of the air force... a sad episode in our forces moment of triumph.

A spokesman for the ministry said today that these issues would be cleared up within two weeks... be sure!

Enemy sources continue to claim that our statistics and analysis of the campaign in the Stalingrad area are wild and exaggerated!

So do you have to buy another copy to play the campaign again and reset your unlocks?

Nice way to put it. Creative at least.

Vodka.  You forgot about the vodka.  Massive amounts makes everything palatable, but generally leads to impaired decision making...

Brutal but real, pilots where not arrested but send to "difficult" missions! :salute:  Or to calm fronts to rest and get the right message. ;)

Well, got the campaign out of the way anyway :)

I haven't even unlocked half of what is available, and to be honest I have no real interest in trying to do anything further.

I won't fly much more, unless of course the headshed listen and start making changes.

It will be sometime before the FMB surfaces and we get better made and absorbing types of campaigns (hopefully) that will draw my interest again in the SP part of the game.

I might try my hand at MP at some stage if the co-op side of life comes to life!

Let me make it clear though that I still encourage all to get the game and give it a go as it is still a gorgeous looking game to fly, but as one of the old simheads  knocking around the community, it just isn't flicking my switch in the campaign department.

I've kind of 'ground' to a halt too...IL2 missions were getting a bit repetitive so I moved to Pe-2 for something different. Bomb this, then bomb that...though there seems a bit more incidental life around the place than before last patch. Prob for me is game freezes, either MP or SP after a couple of missions, the game locks up. Might leave it for a while and see if future patches help.

I'm having rediscovered Silent Hunter III, (4.9€ on steam) and it's wonderful modding community.. so I have to much to do without even put my silly hat on!

Still the best WWII Subsim, and with mod it beats the 'successors' by a longshot (no I'm not trying to imply that BoS is lacking from original IL2!)
